The 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata is powered by a 2.0-liter I-4 with 155 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque and offers a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. EPA average fuel economy is 26/33 mpg city/highway with the manual transmission and 26/35 mpg with the automatic transmission.
NHTSA and IIHS have not tested the 2018 Miata. Blind Spot Alert and Cross Traffic Alert are standard on Club and Grand Touring trims. Lane Departure Warning is only available on the Grand Touring trim.
The 2018 Miata has a smaller trunk of 4.6 cubic feet with the soft top and 4.5 cubic feet with the RF hardtop.

The idea for the best rocket sports cars ever created was born in 1978 during an interview with Bob Hall, the editor of Automotive, then Mazda chief engineer Kenichi Yamamoto. In the 1980s, Mazda had three major design centers (Hiroshima, Tokyo and a new studio in Irvine, California) competing directly to develop the MX-5 roadster. Ideas range from ultra-models like the new Honda CRX and front-wheel drive (Hiroshima) to mid-engine and rear-engine (Tokyo) like Toyota’s MR2.
However, the Californian team stuck to Hall’s basic principles of front-engined, rear-wheel-drive lightweight sports cars, which became a winning formula in 1989.
