There aren’t many fun filled tarmac stretches in Florida, but that didn’t stop us from bombing down the back roads with the roof down and huge smiles on our faces. It starts with a low seating position that may look more like a go-kart than any car today, with the back sitting a few inches above the tarmac. Combine that with a low beltline and small windshield frame, and the Miata still offers one of the best open-air experiences out of a motorcycle.

Of course, there’s a reason why the Miata is so popular with road racers. Balanced weight distribution is a great start, and the Miata complements it with a perfectly tuned chassis. All Miata Grand Touring trim levels come standard with a suspension package that brings a sport-tuned setup with Bilstein shocks and a limited-slip differential, but even so, the Miata won’t beat you to the pavement. Despite its short wheelbase and lowered sport suspension, the 2015 Mazda Miata feels as confident in corners as it does on a slow ride.
