I think the OEM does this so the average customer can take it to the dealer for a replacement = more revenue….

What Is The Subaru Outback Key Fob Battery Size?

I think the chain was a bit simpler back in the days of the RS? Put a dime/quart in the slot and turn 1/4, but I remember all of us 10-15/20 years ago.

It just happened to us yesterday. All the bones of the chain fell to the ground. We replaced it with a new battery, but the car no longer recognized the remote control. There are three reasons for this:

I think it’s a nice little design; I like to take it apart. In this way, it is easy to give everything a clean from time to time. It seems like it’s only meant to go one way (offering a little puzzle the first few times). I think the other one is one of those plastic caps that you roll on coins, but that would increase the size of the stick a bit. A word of warning though – if spring does spring (as some do) I may not be too happy. This has never happened to me.

This is an absolutely terrible design. And it’s not “every day”. It’s crazy compared to Subie’s, I think I can change a Jeep fob battery in the dark.

Personally, I thought changing the battery was easy. I followed the instructions in the manual. I think I have more than 5 years of battery life left. I have had 2 packs of batteries in the glove compartment for several years. I still have the original battery in the remote control I got, which I have never used.

A low-tech technique for separating small spring instruments. Transparent plastic bag. Put an impressive gadget in your bag. Put one hand inside the bag with the tool to open it and use your other hand to reach for the tool from the outside. They won’t get far when the spring-loaded smaller interior inevitably tries to shoot the room…

The 2015 Toyota Sienna square smart key fob fell apart when we opened it to replace the battery. Two of the large edge holding clips broke, which meant I had to choose either glue or tape as a temporary fix. Fortunately, this is a known problem and correct replacement boxes are readily available online. $10 and sent it back together a few days later and it looks new/new.

I slept in the back of my 2017 Subaru Outback Limited for 60 nights before I got a warning that the key fob battery was dead. When I started the car the next morning, I got a warning on the dashboard that the fob battery was dead. This warning remained for the next 2 weeks until the fob battery died.

Don’t worry! There is a small square on the back of the chain. Click this to reveal a physical key that can be used to open doors! To start the car, just hold the dead key to the “MOTOR START” button; This will activate the drive system. You can now open your car legally. These functions can be repeated until the fob battery is replaced.

First, remove the physical key from the remote. Next, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the physical key slot. Gently pull the back of the key fob to expose the battery. Replace with a new CR 2032 battery, which you can find at Walmart for less than $5. Reassemble the keychain and you’re done!
