This stunning corner of beach and lush countryside is located in southeast Auckland, just a short walk from the city.

From Tita Rangi on one side to Swanson on the other, through the Waitakere bush, I had some of the best views of Auckland and its harbour. I spent three full days in Auckland and the North Island. I have wanted to travel to Auckland for a long time. The City of Sails is on my bucket list. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and most populous city. Although 1.5 million may seem paltry in comparison. It is also the economic center of the country. Auckland will be my last city before returning to Singapore. End of my trip to New Zealand! Welcome to step onto the stairs of 147 cities to see the world!

We rented a car from Europcar for 4 nights while we were in the North Island. Sixt and Europcar are my favorite car rental companies. My conditions with both of them are average. After comparing prices, Europcar was cheaper and we got prices starting at NZ$321 including basic insurance. It’s about S$240. Prices are surprisingly cheap, and rates vary widely in the South. The rental is the same for 2 or 4 days, so I only have to rent for the entire time I am in Auckland. This makes it convenient as it covers transportation throughout our city.

Maybe it’s because of the holidays. We just opted for basic cover, which cost an extra NZ$4500. My travel insurance has a maximum coverage limit of S$2500, so I’m happy with that.

Picking up at Auckland Airport is easy. You can find the Europcar branch just outside the bar. You will see the logo directly on it. However, following recent flood damage, operations have been moved to the parking lot. They now have temporary operations in both domestic and international terminals. There was no queue and I was greeted by a very friendly colleague. Check in was quick and the staff checked all the details before handing us the keys. Glad to hear we’ve upgraded from a sedan to an SUV. This car is great. We got a nearly new Kia Niro and it was fantastic to drive. The car has been used for a week and has only been driven 700km. Smells like a new car. This was very different from our experience renting a car in Christchurch.

As usual we walked around the car inspecting the damage and taking some videos and photos before getting comfortable.

Driving in Auckland is very simple, similar to Singapore. After all, we all follow the British system. We were heading in the same direction and the signs were the same. New Zealand is one of the easiest places to drive. The low density and well maintained roads make it very nice. Traffic in Auckland is very busy, especially during rush hour. In cities, there is usually a fee for parking. It’s worth looking around as some of the rates are very high. Please note that some parking lots only allow you to park for a certain amount of time. Street parking is free during the holidays.

Download the app online to check prices and find the cheapest options in the city. Breathless works great! I found that BP and Caltex are the most expensive when driving in New Zealand. For larger brands, you can sign up for a subscription to take advantage of some benefits. Most major stations have organized shops where you can pay. You have your usual brands that you know. Unlike what we are used to, gas stations are not open 24 hours a day, so check opening times before setting off.

While we might think New Zealand is generally a very safe place. Continue to take normal precautions. Do not place bags or valuables on visible seats and lock the doors. We saw a car break down in Hogle Park, leaving visitors scratching their heads. It wasn’t a quiet place either, but there were lots of other cars and people walking by.

I had some really good food when I was in Auckland. Also, you should check out my previous review of the Auckland Hilton. The food at FISH is the best I’ve had in town.

Auckland Fish Market is another great place to have lunch. We had a delicious seafood meal on the terrace. Much smaller than expected, but still worth a look. We bought some grilled shrimp and fried food.

We bought Gap to satisfy our sweet tooth. Handmade ice cream in a variety of cones. Some are truly unique in the world. Note, the more complex, the more expensive! Haha, we took the easy way out and got the broken cone. so perfect!

For our last night and last meal in Oakland, we went to The Depot! I’ve always wanted to try a restaurant in town. It was very noisy the night we came here. We were lucky enough to get a table while we were there. Based on the staff’s recommendation, we ordered grilled salad and pork hook. It was great and we had everything cleaned up. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in the city. I would definitely recommend everyone in Auckland to visit this place.

We spent our free time in Auckland. 3 days in the city is enough. The city of Auckland is very nice and you can easily explore it in about 2 days. We had a great time exploring the city and countryside on our first day. On the second day of the day trip we went to Tapu, and on the last day we went to the outlet mall for shopping. If you have time, the casino is also lively. I can’t say I’ll go back to the city because there’s still so much more to explore in the world, but I probably will
