To use Move with Bluetooth speakers, you need to have the Sonos app on your phone and set up Move on Wi-Fi. Once connected to Wi-Fi, you can switch the speaker to Bluetooth mode and pair it with Bluetooth devices.

When you use Sonos Move with Bluetooth, Move will not be visible in the Sonos app. Music and sound control is possible via a paired Bluetooth device.

If you use Sonos Move and want to use voice assistants, speaker grouping, or stereo pairing, you won’t be able to use Bluetooth.

I then built a Sonos home theater system and bought several Sonos Fives for my living room and bedroom.

When my portable JBL Flip 3 died a few months ago, I was looking for a replacement. Since I already have a set of SONOS speakers, it seemed natural to buy another one. I was choosing between Sonos Move and Sonos ROM, and since the ROM is more compact, I went with it. I was very surprised.

I was able to connect it to my existing SONOS multi-room system within minutes. Bluetooth pairing also went smoothly. However, if you’re new to the SONOS ecosystem, setting up the SONOS ROM and pairing with a Bluetooth source can be a bit confusing.

In this post, I will explain how to perform the initial SONOS ROM setup, how to enable Bluetooth pairing, how to pair with your phone or laptop, and finally, how to troubleshoot pairing issues.

Review: Sonos Roam Is A Worthy Travel Companion

Sonos ROM is different from other Bluetooth speakers in that it is not an ordinary Bluetooth speaker. Like other SONOS speakers, it is also a smart speaker with Wi-Fi and multi-level functions.

Therefore, the initial setup must be done using the SONOS S2 app and a Wi-Fi connection. From this point on, you won’t need Wi-Fi to connect to your Bluetooth device (phone, computer, tablet).

Thanks to this, after the initial configuration, you can use it like any other Bluetooth speaker. But at this first stage there is no way. Let’s get started.

Put Sonos In Pairing Mode

Download the SONOS S2 app on your device. SONOS has apps for these operating systems: macOS, Windows, iOS and Android.

How To Connect Your Sonos One To Bluetooth Explained

Once the software is installed, turn on the Sonos ROM using the power button on the back and wait until the green light starts flashing. This light indicates that the speaker is ready to tune.

The app should automatically detect the speaker and give you the option to add it to the top of the screen.

If you don’t see this option, go to System > Add Product. The app will detect your SONOS ROM.

You should hear sound from the SONOS speaker and a message will appear in the app asking you to press your phone to a lighted area on the back of the speaker, between your legs.

Set Up Your Sonos Connect:amp

Find it and the app will guide you through the remaining steps. If this is your first SONOS speaker, the app will ask you to select a Wi-Fi network and enter the password. If you already have other SONOS speakers in your home, the app will automatically connect SONOS ROM to your Wi-Fi network.

You will see a notification when the app has finished adding the SONOS ROM to Wi-Fi. Click or tap Done. Add SONOS ROM to an existing speaker group to tweak settings, adjust EQ settings, and more. Play by selecting Go to Settings. If you want to connect your SONOS ROM to a Bluetooth device, you can now put your SONOS ROM into pairing mode.

Once you’ve completed the initial setup, putting your SONOS ROM into pairing mode and pairing it with your Bluetooth device will be simple. Here’s how to go about it.

If the device is configured correctly, a solid white LED will appear at the top of the front panel. If there is no Wi-Fi, the LED indicator will be white. But don’t worry – you can still use Bluetooth.

Press and hold the power button on the back until you see a light blue color (for a second or two). This blue flashing light indicates that the SONOS ROM has been paired.

Now just turn on Bluetooth on your main device (phone, laptop, tablet), search for SONOS ROM under available devices and click/tap to pair. The LED indicator will stop flashing and turn dark blue.

In the next section, I will provide step-by-step instructions for different operating systems. But let me add a few more points.

If your SONOS ROM is already connected to one Bluetooth device and you want to connect it to another, press and hold the power button until the LED turns blue after pairing with the first device. Once it starts flashing blue, the SONOS ROM is paired and can be connected to your new device.

How To Connect To A Sonos Speaker

If you want your SONOS ROM to sleep, short press the power button in Bluetooth mode. To turn it off, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Once turned on, the speaker will automatically switch to Wi-Fi mode even if no Wi-Fi connection is available. There’s no way around it – it’s just his default mode.

After turning on the speaker, if you want to connect to your phone via Bluetooth, you need to press the power button again for 1-2 seconds, the LED will turn blue. If the speaker has previously been paired with your device and Bluetooth is turned on on your device, it will be paired automatically.

Once the SONOS ROM enters pairing mode, the rest of the process is simple. If you’ve used Bluetooth technology to connect your phone or laptop to any Bluetooth speaker before, you should know what to do.
