To help enhance the ownership experience at every level, a number of premium features are now available as standard. Infotainment features wireless Apple CarPlay™ along with Android Auto™ capabilities. A wireless charger and paddle shifters are newly added to the 2021 CX-9.
The 2021 CX-9’s suite of i-Activsense safety features includes adaptive LED headlights, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, driver attention alert, smart city brake assist, and more. Smart brake assist and radar cruise control have been added.
Other standard features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, three-zone automatic climate control, ten-way driver’s seat with memory position, LED interior lighting, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio pairing, keyless entry and push-button start. . Auto-level LED start lights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, and rain-sensing wipers are also standard on the new 2021 CX-9.
The CX-9’s stylish design is matched by its responsive performance. The Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine is equipped with two-wheel drive (2WD) and i-Activ All-Wheel Drive (AWD), which provides 228 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The turbocharged engine is mated to a six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission and has G-Vectoring Control Plus as standard.

The 2021 CX-9 “Ignite Edition” is currently a Japanese CBU. The color range includes Spirit Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Snowflake Pearl, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue and Jet Black. A total of 6 colors are available.
The car retails from RM319,847.40 inclusive of 50% sales tax (SST) reduction on CBU models, valid from now until 31 September.
This model has a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty + 5-year free maintenance according to the manufacturer’s standards, including labor, parts and lubricants. The manufacturer’s warranty and free maintenance have a coverage period of five years and a mileage limit of 100,000 km, whichever comes first.

Review: 2023 Mazda Cx 9 Signature Awd
First introduced locally in 2013, the first-generation CX-9 was Mazda’s largest SUV. Built on a Ford platform (Mazda partnered with Ford until 2015), it used Ford’s 3.7-litre V6 engine, which meant significant road tax and fuel costs.
The second generation was released locally in 2017. This time it came with a smaller turbo engine that produced less power but more torque and was much more compatible with the CX-9’s features.

This is a second-generation Mazda CX-9 built on the then-new Mazda Skyactiv platform, not related to the previous generation. This particular unit is from the 2018 model year and its design follows Mazda’s Kodo philosophy. Mazda tried to improve every aspect of the CX-9 in the first generation, and it shows here.

With only one engine and transmission option available, there wasn’t much (if any) choice. Equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 231 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque.
Depending on the variant chosen, power was sent to the front wheels or all four wheels with front differential. However, the transmission in all variants regardless of the wheels was Mazda’s six-speed automatic transmission and not the CVTs that most Japanese manufacturers put in their cars.
Weighing in at 1,916kg, it still manages to do the century sprint in 8.2 seconds, which is actually pretty good for its weight, and also shows when the turbo engine’s torque is most useful.
For all its weight and mass, the CX-9 drives very well and is quite maneuverable for its size. The turbo engine has a creamy, linear powerband and is eager to deliver that power when needed, especially when pushed harder.

The CX-9 exhibits the features of its peers, including the reliability Mazda is known for. According to the owners, this Japanese car is almost flawless and has high mechanical reliability.
The only complaint owners have is that it’s more expensive to replace wearables and there’s a slightly higher risk of running out of stock or having to wait for parts to arrive.
As one of the most common cars in Singapore, especially compared to its peers such as the Mazda 3 and 6, dealers may not have much stock of CX-9 parts due to lower demand.
Its 20-inch tires add to its beauty by filling the large wheel arches, but it also comes with a price tag. With 255/50/R20 tire sizes, those tires won’t be cheap to replace, and the wheels aren’t cheap either if you decide to buy an aftermarket set.

Its fuel capacity is 72 liters, which is not a small tank. Depending on the weight of the foot, owners report fuel consumption between 12 and 14 liters per 100 km, which means a real range of 500 to 600 km. They’re not the best figures, but considering the engine has to drive a 1.9-tonne car, it’s quite acceptable.
If the CX-9 excels at one thing, it’s comfort. Almost all interior surfaces are covered with leather or soft materials. In this car, the seats are covered with light beige leather and the dashboard, steering wheel, gear shift and door panels are covered with black leather or soft materials. In short, the car is very easy to ride.
With front-wheel drive, there isn’t much rear floor protrusion and three people fit comfortably in the back without the middle passenger having to position their feet awkwardly. The front seats are electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated, and the seat ventilation is much appreciated in Singapore’s climate.
Unlike other SUVs that claim to have seven seats, the CX-9 also has a third row, which is really useful. Although passengers on the highest side are not recommended to sit there, those around 1.7 meters can fit well behind it.

The center console has a seven-inch screen for the Mazda Connect infotainment system, and the images are clear and legible. While it has touchscreen functionality, it also has physical buttons and hard buttons for functions such as the radio, music player and volume controls, as well as a larger system control stick.
This 2018 model year CX-9 has Bluetooth connectivity without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, CX-9s built after the 2019 model year do. Safety systems such as lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera are also included.
Except for the digital display on the right, the tachometer and tachometer are analog. There’s also a home screen that shows you speed, engine revs, cruise control speed, gear position and lane departure warning.
