Convertible Car Seat Extended Rear Facing

Convertible Car Seat Extended Rear Facing – It’s no secret that we’re fans of extended rear backs, so when a car seat comes out with a higher rear-facing weight limit, we can’t wait to see it. The Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat is compact, easy to install, easy to use, 50-pound rear-facing weight limit, extra legroom for children, and under $200!

Many technicians are impressed by the image alone. Well, my fellow caregivers and technicians, use the last couch. Graco introduces Extend2Fit.

Graco launched the Extend2Fit on the Canadian market with the same rear and front restraints as the version sold in the US. However, the Canadian manual provides several different rules and recommendations for Extend2Fit in Canada. Be sure to check out our overview of Canada to see these important differences.

The harness, buckle, and chest clip are all standard Graco accessories. As expected, wrapping all the dolls and my daughter was very easy. The strips didn’t stay in place easily, even with twisting as much as I did for all of these shapes. The headrest was easily adjustable to all 10 positions, although the flap that raises the headrest remains hidden whenever you lower it. It was really annoying for me, but most caregivers don’t adjust the headrest more than 20 times a day, so I don’t think it’s a big deal.

The inserts that come with the seat are thick and easy to use under the head and belly. They both do a great job helping the child. The harness under the back must be removed facing forward, but the harness behind the head can remain for the life of the seat. This can be very helpful if you have a forward-facing baby, who appreciates more head support, or is low tone.

The seat has belt loops with some gripping material, presumably to keep it from slipping on the belt. They can be used in both rear-facing and forward-facing modes. Note: This restriction has been changed retroactively since this review was published.

In several photos in this review, the belt has been removed to show height and position. There are two buckle belt positions. Both can be used backwards, but the outer, forward-facing position must be used. Even for my 6 year old daughter it was great to see the doll’s internal back opening. Those who look outward have also done well for themselves. Tip: When changing the buckle position, tilt the seat back and fully extend the panel to reach the buckle strap. This will make life much easier.

The manual says that the panel should be in 2 to 4 positions for a child over 40kg. This means not being completely squeezed. When asked if this was absolutely necessary, as the seat is more compact without it, he said that leaving the panel out would not be abuse. However, if space is an issue and the parent ignores the guideline (correctly, we hope an official statement comes out revising this guideline), the caregiver can always consult the panel. You can use the second position, and it is extended approx. There are two cups with this seat and both need to be assembled when purchasing the seat. They enter easily as long as they are facing the right direction. They don’t fit any other way, so it’s not hard to do.

Extend2Fit includes hassle-free pockets for storing buckles when the seat is not in use. This means you don’t have to dig around your baby’s hips every time you put her in or out.

The foot panel sets the Extend2Fit apart from every other convertible car seat on the market. As your child grows, the panel can be extended to make them feel more comfortable. While legroom isn’t a safety issue—kids are lazier than adults—the extra legroom might make rear passengers a little happier. The panel can only be adjusted when the seat is removed. Get in and out with a squeeze.

Because the panel can slightly increase the footprint of the Extend2Fit, Graco allows a 20% overhang from front to back. Instead of asking the audience to guess what 20% of the base would be, they added 2 labels to the sides of the Extend2Fit base – one for the front and one for the back.

If you’re confused about how much overshoot is allowed at any given setting, these helpful labels approximate a reasonable value.

When this car seat is installed in a booster seat or minivan booster seat, Graco has confirmed that up to 20% of the base may hang over the edge of the car seat when in harness mode. In booster mode, the entire base must be in contact with the car seat.

When the car seat is installed in the back, it can take up a lot of space from front to back and make driving a little uncomfortable for the passenger in the front seat of the car seat. Sometimes it seems like the easiest way to make more room for cramped passengers is to rotate the car seat and move the baby forward. This is not always the answer, especially when the car seat in question has a rounder and bulkier structure.

The adjustable headrest has 10 easy to navigate positions. Because the Extend2Fit utilizes a non-retractable harness, adjusting the headrest also adjusts the height of the harness. The lowest harness position is 7 inches (with the child attachment in place) and the highest position is 17.5 inches.

Anchoring to the back is quite easy with this seat. In my car, I found it necessary to pull the cover to the side (pull the belt back into the belt path) to finish tightening the belt. It was an extra step, but not difficult. With four seating positions available, I was able to configure the seat in reclining and upright positions for newborns without the aid of a rolled-up towel or pool noodle.

Installing the outer and lower dash anchors required some of our reviewers to stand behind the seat and pull the lower anchors up to secure the installation.

We would like to see a slot added to the rear ring cover or to make it easier to remove the cover around the ring. This will allow easy access from inside the seat frame to attach the vehicle’s lower anchor or seat belt.

Note: Lower anchors can be used with this seat up to 45 pounds, so the caregiver can install the car seat belt before the child is facing forward.

Choosing The Right Car Seat For Your Child’s Size

The seat belt for installing the car seat belt is shorter than convertible car seats, so threading the car seat belt through the belt was a little more work than expected, but the installation itself it was easy.

NOTE: Once the seat is properly installed, the seat belt can slide into the rear panel storage/extension area. As long as less than an inch gets in the way of the seat belt, it’s fine.

The front-to-back adjustment of this seat is notable for its corresponding child size. When the Extend2Fit is set up for a newborn, we find that most tall passengers can still fit in front of it. The same thing happened with the seat panel all the way out and the seat installed in an upright position for an older child. With the dashboard up and the seat fully upright, the front passenger seat had plenty of room for our tall test passenger.

On the left, the Extend2Fit is set up for a newborn. The next photo shows the seat in an upright position with the panel extended. The seat is then upright, but the dashboard is maintained (the headrest is deliberately lowered to show its size in the car). The fourth image shows the location obtained by placing the panel.

Stretch positions 1-4 can be used in rear view mode. Babies under 3 months should install the Extend2Fit at an angle to the light blue band on the extension indicator. For babies over 3 months old, rear-facing and beyond the blue band on the recline indicator are allowed.

Stretch positions 4-6 should be used facing forward. For children weighing between 22 and 40 pounds, the seat should recline to the fourth position. Children weighing more than 40 pounds should use five or six forward-facing reclined positions.

I installed the seat with the lower anchors to see how replacing the lower anchor strap worked and to assess its level.
