Disconnect each battery cable, clean and inspect it as you remove it to make sure it is still in good condition. Check for corrosion or breaks in the cables that could cause problems with the car’s performance. If you need to replace them, see our section on your golf kart battery cables. This makes it easy to know what goes where during installation.

Then you use your handy battery strap and remove the batteries. As you pull, it’s a good idea to sit in the same direction they were in the golf cart so you can see at a glance when you grab the new one to install it properly. Golf cart batteries are heavy, so the less you have to handle them, the better. You may need to replace the golf cart battery holders as they tend to rot from years of leaking battery acid.
Once all the batteries are removed, push the cart outside to a place where you have access to a water hose. Spray the entire battery compartment and remove the long-handled scrub brush to remove any corrosion or debris from the frame rails. Now take a five minute break while it dries. We use air pressure in the shop to blow dry the area to speed up the process.
Once dry, apply a type of corrosion block or preventive. The best on the market for any alloy is precisely called ‘Corrosion Block’. It comes in a narrow spray bottle with a blue, silver and white colored tail. Once you have properly installed the frame rails that come into contact with the golf cart decks, you are ready to install the new deck.
Insert the new golf cart batteries into their respective slots or sides. Connect all jumper wires (battery cables) that connect all batteries to create a 48 volt control system. Now check all the functionality of your car (forward, reverse, lights, stereo, etc…) to make sure everything is working properly. After a quick tour of the area you should feel the power of the new batteries and see the lights bright. Almost done…

If everything is working properly, you’ll want to apply a slightly different type of corrosion prevention to all terminal connections. We use Corrosion Preventive in our shop, but if it is not available in your area, a Quick product will work just as well. Fast preventive cable corrosion. Golf carts seem to have become a “thing” in neighborhoods across the country. They used to be limited to large estates and golf courses, but that is no longer the case. Aluminum frames last longer and Club Car builds a great quality product. I own a 1973 and 1985 Club Car. Both frames hold up well.
