2015 Mazda Cx 5 Grand Touring Awd – When the CX-5 crossover first hit the market, it was well received. The rooms are spacious, functional and elegantly decorated. It’s gotten better over the years, but automakers with bigger advertising and marketing budgets have gotten all the attention for their compact utility vehicles, and the CX-5 is arguably better.

What we have is the 2015 AWD Grand Touring CX-5, which features Mazda’s V-shaped honeycomb grille, adjustable cat-eye headlights, curvy lines, and flared wheel arches.

It is powered by Mazda’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 184 hp and 185 N-ft of torque at 3,250 rpm. Combined with the six-speed automatic transmission, the 2015 CX-5 has EPA fuel ratings of 24 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. During our week-long test drive, we averaged 24.9 mpg.

This engine is powerful, but it gave us a few gripes. On a cold start, it is very rough, like a diesel engine. In terms of speed, it is rather sluggish when asked to accelerate significantly. More torque on the lower ranges takes care of sluggishness without giving up too much fuel for economy. Still, the engine is capable, and we never found ourselves in danger from a lack of power.

Our all-wheel drive test car responded deftly to the driver’s commands. It handles well, corners fast, doesn’t rock in corners, handles these twisty roads, and handles big puddles and sheds well in a rainy year.

The 2015 Mazda CX-5 features the automaker’s highly regarded SkyActiv technology, an enhancement system that includes the engine, transmission and chassis.

For example, the engine has the highest combustion ratio of any gasoline engine, improving fuel efficiency by 15 percent and providing low to mid-range torque. Transmission technology significantly reduces slippage. SkyActiv chassis technology reduces the weight of the Mazda lineup by 100 kilograms (220 pounds). All this makes the CX-5 very stiff, quiet and stable in its journey.

The seats are comfortable and stylish, and the Mazda CX-5 2015 can seat five, but it can also seat four in real comfort. There is plenty of storage space behind the second row. We think the touch screen is a little dull, but we don’t know how its appearance could be improved. Still, the 2015 Mazda CX-5 has plenty of surprises.

Of course, it has a navigation system, satellite radio, a sunroof, and a Pandora sound system, which is great in its own right. But there are some surprising creature comforts, too. Adjustable headlights, blind side warning, heated mirrors, reversing camera and start, stop, lock and unlock buttons and voice control.

A few years ago, such equipment was found in vehicles priced well above the 2015 CX-5’s $29,220 base price. With options and shipping costs, the total cost of our test vehicle came to $31,760. That’s not all for a comfortable, well-equipped utility vehicle. There are no changes for the 2015 Mazda CX-5. The updated CX-5 will go on sale in 2015 as a 2016 model.

The 2015 Mazda CX-5 is available with two engines: a 2.0-liter I-4 with 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.5-liter I-4 with 184 hp and 185 lb-ft. The 2.0-liter engine comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed automatic transmission is optional. All CX-5s with the larger 2.5-liter I-4 engine are available only with the automatic transmission. Fuel economy is impressive for a crossover with the smaller engine and manual transmission, at 26/35 mpg city/highway. Selecting an automatic drops those figures to 26/32 mpg. Opting for the larger engine doesn’t come at the expense of fuel economy, with front-wheel-drive models rated at 25/32 mpg and single-wheel-drive models at 24/30 mpg.

Like all Mazda vehicles, the 2015 CX-5 has excellent driving dynamics, good handling and balance, and sporty handling that makes driving on winding roads a pleasure. The larger 2.5-liter I-4 also accelerates well, giving this crossover enough power to pass and merge on the highway. The CX-5’s responsive automatic transmission is also a strong point, shifting gears quickly and seamlessly. Despite its dynamic characteristics, the CX-5’s ride is not sacrificed to handling, remaining comfortable over rough pavement.

The seats are suitable for four passengers and provide good support for long journeys and spirited driving on winding roads. While build quality is excellent, the interior design of the 2015 CX-5 is conservative and bland, especially with an all-black interior as the only option. Although it has added many technology features since its introduction in 2012 as a 2013 model, the crossover’s navigation remains a weak point, and its small 5.8-inch touchscreen looks dated compared to competitors. Cargo hauling, on the other hand, is a strong point, with the 40/20/40 split-folding seatbacks increasing volume to 64.8 cubic feet.

The NHTSA gave the 2015 Mazda CX-5 an overall safety rating of five stars out of five. In IIHS evaluations, the 2014 model earned Good scores in all test categories and earned a Top Safety Pick+ award (Good is the highest rating).

Road Test Review

The 2015 Mazda CX-5 is one of the best crossovers on sale thanks to its excellent driving dynamics, practical interior, and low fuel consumption. In a head-to-head test of four two-row crossovers in 2013/2014, the CX-5 won because it was fun to drive, had a usable and well-packaged interior, and took top spot despite that it is the fastest fuel economy. . This crossover is a compelling package, especially with the 2.5-liter engine, which doesn’t sacrifice fuel economy for performance. It’s also practical and comfortable, with supportive seats and a large, easy-to-load cargo area, as noted in our 2012/2013 crossover comparison test.

Apart from the Porsche Macan or the Audi SQ5, which cost twice as much as the Mazda, nothing in its class offers the driving dynamics of the CX-5.

Mazda Cx 5 Review & Ratings

Driving fast on narrow roads is as comfortable as a mule loaded with groceries and other household items which are always at the bottom of most crossings.

But why not take the family with you? Of course, he does that too; four counts easily, and even the occasional fifth adult doesn’t matter. It’s also affordable and economical, with a base price of $21,545 and up to 35 mpg highway. Did we mention, it can also be ordered with a manual gearbox – DIY gearbox lovers, rejoice!

Over the course of a week, we traveled 1,000 miles from San Francisco to the Central Coast, including long stretches of freeway, hundreds of miles of winding inland roads, some off-roading, and of course some heavy traffic. CX-5 to be attractive and practical – a crossover for those who swore they would never drive an SUV.

Mazda Cx 5 Touring Fwd Long Term Arrival

The CX-5 rides on a custom chassis with a wheelbase of 106.3 inches, length and width of 178.7 inches and 72.4 inches respectively. Those proportions put it in the middle of the pack in a class that includes rivals like the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape.

It features KODO Mazda’s bold exterior design, which is pleasing to the eye, but it’s the interior that really counts. Beneath the contained body is a chassis that is willing and able to cut corners and satisfy all but the most jaded movers. It has large disc brakes at each corner and rides on 19-inch wheels with Toyo all-season tires.

The Mazda’s cabin life is equally satisfying, whether in cloth or leather, with a range of elegant and subtle controls, a manual (flowless) mode shifter, a standard 5.8-inch touchscreen and a rearview camera with optional navigation. Blind spot monitoring is also available. In later years, Mazda Smart City Braking support was added. This is a wind-mounted laser system that prevents collisions at low speeds (up to 29 mph)
