Ways To Foil Catalytic Converter Thieves
I would like to explain why aftermarket catalytic converters are different and if you are going to replace yours, you should use the original catalytic converter that came with your Prius.
The short answer to this question is yes, and most aftermarket catalytic converters will work for your Toyota Prius, depending on the model. But the main question is not whether it will work, but how long.
The OEM cat shifter for your Prius is designed and manufactured differently than cheaper options. One of the major differences between converters is the density or amount of precious metal material in the converter.
If you don’t believe me, ask all the thieves who stole the OE converter from the Prius and see how much they got. Anywhere from $500 to $1000 for a used OE Toyota Prius catalytic converter, working or not.
Catalytic Converter Thefts Lead To Long Waits For Prius Part
So there are more precious metals in converters, what does that have to do with it? Everything. The converter works when it “fires” or ignites and begins to work, the precious metals react and change the harmful gases from the gas engine into less harmful gases.
The difference is how your Prius runs. Is your Prius running on fuel, coolant or fire? Do you know that these problems are destroying your catalytic converter? When your Prius “uste” convertible needs a good pace. This also means that replacing it with an aftermarket model that is not durable will not last long.
Ultimately, the decision is yours; Unless you live in California, then you have no choice. But if you don’t have the same rules as California, you have to decide if your cat’s inverter is broken or stolen. OE or aftermarket?
A cat OE converter will cost you more and have a larger margin, but it will also last longer and pollute less because of its durability. This will disable your check engine light and is legal in all 50 states. Also, your Prius will be easier to sell if you find a buyer from California.
