But it could be as simple as leaving the headlights or interior lights on, draining the battery overnight. In any case, you need to jumpstart the battery to get your car to a safe place for further inspection. Here’s what you need to know about how to jumpstart a car.

A portable starter is also a good option. When you get a new car, make sure the battery cables go to the trunk. Teach your kids this when they learn to drive.
While you’re at it, you can pop the hood of your car and identify the engine and battery, so you know what to touch and what not. Some cars have batteries located elsewhere, such as in the trunk. It’s better to know now than to be stuck in a stressful emergency.

First, park the car with the battery not so close to the work car (boost car) that the jumper cables reach both batteries. Turn off the ignition and set the parking brake on both cars. Turn off lights, radios and other devices in both cars. You don’t want a car battery to send any power to anything.

Open the hood of each car to find each battery and its terminals. Locate the positive and negative terminals of your car battery. The positive position is often red, but not always, so look for the plus or minus sign to determine battery polarity.
Jumper cables are also red and black (or positive and negative). The red terminals connect to the battery positive and the black terminals connect to the battery negative. Touching the wrong battery pack with the wrong cable can create a spark or give you a serious electric shock, so be sure to connect the cables in the correct order:

Because both you and your car can be injured, check your position and make sure connecting cables are properly secured and away from moving engine parts. If so, it’s definitely time to jumpstart a dead car battery.
Next, start the car with a dead battery and let it idle until the battery recovers. If the car does not start immediately, you may need to wait a few minutes for the battery to fully charge.
Finally, when the car is off and the battery is sufficiently charged, disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order you connected them. Care must be taken here especially since the car is still running. Do not let the cable ends touch anything, especially metal or other clamps.
Drive the car for at least 20 minutes to allow the electric current to charge the battery. If it’s not charging, don’t turn off the car until you get to a safe place. If your battery is more than a few years old, you may want to check or replace it.

I currently have it on the charger waiting to be charged. I was wondering if there is a way to start a bike from a car battery like one car can start another? By connecting two batteries with good old jumper cables.
I found a way to use the SAE connector to jump on my bike and it would be easier without waiting for a charger.

Does anyone know if this can be used to start a Bergman by connecting the alligator clip to the car battery and the other end to the Bergman’s SAE connector? Or am I asking for trouble?
The biggest question is whether the wires on the SAE connector on the bike are heavy enough to carry the load.

If you have an SAE cable connected to a burger battery, with the hot side cable connected inside – say 15 amps, like my smart charger / heater connector – I think you can safely try that and see what happens. I think the worst thing that can happen is that you blow a fuse.

I wouldn’t start with thin wire. But I am like charging your motorcycle battery with a car battery with the above cable. Plug in only for 3 minutes and unplug several times for 5 minutes to avoid overheating the motorcycle battery.

As mentioned wiring issues will be an issue. Most of them are 18 gauge, some are 16. It’s nowhere near a dolphin.
The cables on my micro starter are gauge 8 or 10 (I can’t tell without removing them because I don’t talk.)
Most jumpers go for ~50 amps, more than the bike asks for, I think what is normally designed and what is in these cables and what is designed to jump a bit and you will have some liquid issues. If the fuse (typically 7.5 amp) does not blow fast enough.

Anti-Gravity, NOCO, and probably others have cables that you can attach to the battery so you can connect directly to their devices without having to pull the covers off. To connect any vehicle with them or connect your own end to one end permanently connected to the battery.
Sorry for being all over the place on this topic, but I’m currently thinking of using one of these similar portable battery packs (the one with the ‘EC5’ connector) and then switching to a battery pack with one of those. I watched this Youtube video (start at 4m14s of the video) which shows this scenario.
They both sell micro starters and have a good reputation and quality. There are a bunch of generics that I ordered and returned before I got the AG unit that I still have.
