Next, start the car with a dead battery and let it idle until the battery recovers. If the car does not start immediately, you may need to wait a few minutes for the battery to fully charge.

Finally, when the car is off and the battery is sufficiently charged, disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order you connected them. Care must be taken here especially since the car is still running. Do not let the cable ends touch anything, especially metal or other clamps.

Does anyone know if this can be used to start a Bergman by connecting the alligator clip to the car battery and the other end to the Bergman’s SAE connector? Or am I asking for trouble?

The biggest question is whether the wires on the SAE connector on the bike are heavy enough to carry the load.

If you have an SAE cable connected to a burger battery, with the hot side cable connected inside – say 15 amps, like my smart charger / heater connector – I think you can safely try that and see what happens. I think the worst thing that can happen is that you blow a fuse.

I wouldn’t start with thin wire. But I am like charging your motorcycle battery with a car battery with the above cable. Plug in only for 3 minutes and unplug several times for 5 minutes to avoid overheating the motorcycle battery.

Anti-Gravity, NOCO, and probably others have cables that you can attach to the battery so you can connect directly to their devices without having to pull the covers off. To connect any vehicle with them or connect your own end to one end permanently connected to the battery.

Sorry for being all over the place on this topic, but I’m currently thinking of using one of these similar portable battery packs (the one with the ‘EC5’ connector) and then switching to a battery pack with one of those. I watched this Youtube video (start at 4m14s of the video) which shows this scenario.

They both sell micro starters and have a good reputation and quality. There are a bunch of generics that I ordered and returned before I got the AG unit that I still have.
