The 2019 Lexus NX 300 AWD and Acura RDX SH-AWD 2019 are the best two-row crossovers in America. Both have some strengths and weaknesses, but there are some notable differences for 2019 buyers to be aware of. The Lexus NX is a 2018 model and has not changed much since it was introduced a few years ago. The Acura RDX is a car that is completely different from last year. Here is our analysis of the key differences.

Although both cars are dual crossovers, the Acura RDX is now bigger than the Lexus NX 300. The Acura RDX is now five inches long, one inch wide and one inch taller than the Lexus NX. Inside, we found the NX very comfortable except for the driver’s knee compartment. Our right knee is always stuck with the hard plastic of its center console. In contrast, RDX is bigger and wider now. Where the size difference is most noticeable is in the cargo area. RDX capabilities with rear seats are almost double that of the Lexus NX

The Lexus NX is cheaper than the Acura RDX. The NX 300 starts at just $ 39K with AWD. The Acura RDX starts at just over $ 40K. Our top test Lexus NX (2018 model) is priced at $ 45,560. A similarly equipped Acura RDX will cost around $ 49K. The two are not designed in the same way, but if we look at the equipment, our impression is that the Lexus is priced at less than 10% at the top of the range and close to the basic decision.
The Lexus NX 300 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 235 horsepower. It is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. The RDX also has a 2.0-liter turbo engine, but it has more power at 272 hp. Acura uses a modern 10-speed automatic transmission. While both have more power, the RDX feels a bit faster in all situations. Both offer upgrades to all bikes.
The EPA fuel economy comparison is above. The Lexus NX has the benefit of 1 MPG, but requires higher fuel, this is a requirement, not a recommendation. The Acura RDX can run on standard 87 octane unleaded.
Our Lexus NX tester has a 10-speaker Lexus Premium Audio system as part of the Navigation package. It’s good and lives up to expectations. Our $ 48,395 A-Spec RDX (one set down) features a great Acura ELS Studio 3D sound system with 710 watts of power and 16 speakers (including roof). We have never heard of a better system at any price point. This is a huge benefit for Acura’s decision.

Both Lexus and Acura include Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto yet. Acura says it plans to add Android to all buyers for the 2019 model year. Toyota did not make that promise.
Both cars use a touchpad interface. We are not big fans of remote interfaces here at Torque News. We like simple touch screen systems. This is a bath. Choose the one you like best.
Both the RDX and NX 300 have hot steering options, but both offer only the top. Acura offers up screen, but only on higher trim. And they do not have dynamic light (they move from side to side as you turn). All of these options are available on the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Crossover for a minimal price. We found it strange that these features were not standard on the RDX and NX 300. While the Lexus NX has a small backup, the Acura RDX has only a few additions.
The Lexus NX 300 AWD has good handling and good cornering and braking. The RDX from Acura has an equal ride but has a bit of an edge to handle. They feel different. The NX is very straightforward and feels like a regular crossover. The RDX feels like a sports car or sedan. This is a personal matter.

In the past, the two were very close. For 2019, Acura leaves the previous formula in the main way. We doubt Lexus will follow suit next year. While the Acura RDX has an audio system and Lexus processor edge, there are no exceptions in this regard. Lexus is a bit cheaper, and we think the NX could have an affordable advantage if Lexus offered a simple incentive. However, resale prices can negate that benefit. Size is the real difference between the two. Those who like bright cars will love the Lexus, while those looking for extra space will find the RDX their choice.
