What Lexus Is Comparable To Acura Rdx – The Acura RDX is all-new for 2019. We compare the Lexus NX 300 AWD and share what we found so you can decide what’s right.
The 2019 Lexus NX 300 AWD and the 2019 Acura RDX SH-AWD are two of the best premium two-row crossovers in America. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but there are some key differences that buyers should be aware of for the 2019 model. The Lexus NX is a 2018 model year and hasn’t changed significantly since it was launched a few years ago. Acura RDX is a completely different car from last year. Here’s a breakdown of the key differences.
What Lexus Is Comparable To Acura Rdx
Although both are two-row crossovers, the Acura RDX is now a larger car than the Lexus NX 300. The Acura RDX is now five inches longer, one inch wider and one inch taller than the Lexus NX. Inside, apart from the driver’s knee, we found the NX to be very comfortable. Our right knee was constantly in contact with the hard plastic of the enlarged center console. In contrast, the RDX is bigger and wider. Where the size difference is most noticeable is in the cargo area. With the rear seats folded down, the RDX is twice the size of the Lexus NX.

Lexus NX is cheaper than Acura RDX. The NX 300 starts at $39,000 with AWD. Acura RDX prices start at just $40,000. Our tester Lexus NX (2018 model) was priced at $45,560. A similarly equipped Acura RDX costs about $49,000. The two aren’t dressed exactly the same, but our sense from looking at the tuning tools is that the top-of-the-line Lexus is about 10 percent cheaper and closer in base trim.
The Lexus NX 300 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 235 horsepower. It is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. The RDX has a 2.0-liter turbo engine, but it makes more power with 272 horsepower. Acura also uses a more modern 10-speed automatic transmission. While both have plenty of power, the RDX feels slightly quicker in all conditions. Both offer advanced four-wheel drive systems.
The EPA fuel economy comparison is above. The Lexus NX has an MPG advantage, but requires premium fuel. This is a request, not an offer. The Acura RDX can run on 87 octane unleaded.
Our Lexus NX tester had the 10-speaker Lexus Premium audio system as part of the navigation package. It was good and met expectations. The $48,395 A-Spec RDX (top trim) featured Acura’s excellent ELS Studio 3D Premium sound system with 710 watts of power and 16 speakers (including the roof). We have never heard of a better system. This is a huge plus for Acura.

Lexus and Acura both have Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto doesn’t yet. Acura says it plans to add Android to everyone who buys a 2019 model year. Toyota has made no such promise.
Both cars use a touchpad interface. Torque News is not a fan of remote interface parts. We prefer simpler touchscreen systems. This is a wash. Choose your favorite.
Both the RDX and NX 300 have a heated steering wheel, but both are only offered on top trims. Acura offers a heads-up display, but only on the top trim. There’s also no front adaptive lighting (which moves sideways when turned). All of these options are available on the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring crossover for much less. We’re surprised these features aren’t standard on the RDX and NX 300. The Lexus NX is available as a compact, while the Acura RDX is only available in certain trims.
The Lexus NX 300 AWD offers a very comfortable ride and good cornering and braking. Acura’s RDX is just as compliant, but has a slight edge in performance. They feel different. The NX is more upright and looks more like a traditional sports crossover. The RDX looks like a performance coupe or sedan. This is a personal preference.

In the past, the two were closer to each other in many ways. For 2019, Acura’s lineup differs from its predecessor. We believe that Lexus will follow the same trend for the upcoming models. While the Acura RDX excels in sound systems and performance, the Lexus is no slouch in these areas. The Lexus is priced slightly lower, and we think the NX could have a significant price advantage if the folks at Lexus offered the usual incentives. However, resale value can negate this advantage. Size is the real differentiator between the two. Those who prefer a more compact vehicle will like the Lexus, and those who want more space will find the RDX to their liking. Acura Rdx Vs. Lexus Rx
Overview: The RX’s compact cousin, the 2022 Lexus NX offers a comfortable ride, comfortable interior and powerful engines, including hybrids and plug-in hybrids. The base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder flavors are a little laughable for our tastes, but the 2.4-liter turbo in the NX 350 infuses the NX compact with some much-needed value. Slightly less expensive than the 350, the 350h hybrid gets an impressive 37 mpg on the highway, and the top-of-the-line 450h+ plug-in. Still, at over $55k, it’s a big jump in fuel economy over the regular hybrid. All trims except the base 250 have standard four-wheel drive.
The NX’s driving style is more about comfort than cornering, with a quiet and comfortable cabin. The NX is slightly sportier than its big brother, the RX, but focuses more on smoothness than performance.
Inside, the cabin is comfortable and well equipped. We’re happy to report that the 2022 redesign has replaced our previous infotainment system with a better touchscreen. Good looks and plenty of kids for everyday stuff, but with the seats up or folded, the cargo area covers most of the competition. We’re not big fans of the engine in the NX, so it’s worth a test drive for comfort.
Standard features include synthetic leather seats and various safety features such as natural leather, a larger touchscreen and a panoramic moonroof.

New for 2022: A complete redesign for 2022 brought us more secure features, a new hybrid plugin, and most importantly, touchscreen information rather than a remote security interface.
Features and Technology: If the 2022 Lexus NX has anything to offer, it’s a variety of engines. The base model NX 250 has a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine connected to an 8-speed automatic, front- or all-wheel drive. For starters, the NX 350 is all-wheel drive and uses a 2.4-liter turbo engine mated to an 8-speed automatic. The NX 350h Hybrid uses a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) to send power to all four wheels, just like the NX 450h Plug-in Hybrid.
The base 2022 NX 250 is well-equipped at this price, with leather-trimmed upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a 10-way power steering wheel and a 9.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay wireless and Android Auto. And Amazon Alexa, the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 package includes automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane assist, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and automatic high beam.
Next, you get ambient lighting, a panoramic moonroof, leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, a premium Mark Levinson audio system, a 14-inch infotainment screen, and more. You might add that all of these features are standard on the 450h+ plug-in hybrid model.
