A two-bedroom rental listing in Auckland is being mocked online, with Reddit users claiming it’s the highest price of the week.
Expensive’ 2 Bedroom Auckland Rental Ridiculed Online
The property on Ngake Street in Orakei is advertised on myRent as a “renovated two-bedroom house that is easier, simpler and more convenient to rent”.
With one bathroom, one covered garage and two uncovered parking spaces, the property is listed for $900 a week — something people online say is ridiculous.
The listing was posted on Reddit on Wednesday and immediately caught the attention of users, even on Orakei the price is high.
According to Barfoot & Thompson’s November 2018 rental report, the average weekly rent for a two-bedroom apartment on Oakland’s east side is $518. The average rent in the city is $710 per week, according to real estate site OneRoof.

Auckland Council lists the property as having a total property value (CV) of $1.475 million and a land value of $1.34 million.

The Slowing Rental Market In New Zealand
A new report revealed the hottest and best places to rent in Israel.
Data released by Massey University for the December-March quarter show the average weekly rent on the West Coast is $251, the lowest in the country.
While rents have risen in some areas, West Coast rents are down 6.7% from last quarter and down 4.2% from last year.
This compares to the most expensive area, Oakland, whose median rent was $564 – a 5% increase over the same period last year.

Although the Southland is one of the cheapest areas, the area has seen the biggest year-on-year rise in rent prices – up 151% to 15.7% in average weekly rent.
The report also shows that renters pay 100 percent more than the national rate in six of the 16 regions.
Marlborough (116.1%), Mule Bay (109.6%), Auckland (106.6%), Hawke’s Bay (105.2%), Tasman (103.1%) and Northland (102.8%).
The other 10 regions have better rental rates than the rest of the country, but two regions are the best for renters: the Southland (77.1 percent) and the West Coast (58.7 percent).

Authors Dr Arshad Javed and Professor Graham Squires, from Massey University’s Department of Real Estate Analysis, say there are many different factors affecting rental prices in New Zealand.

“It was like finding a thorn in a haystack…I thought I was lost forever.”
