Nuna Newborn Car Seat Insert

Nuna Newborn Car Seat Insert – Nuna is one of the companies that has shaken up the car seat industry by showing that it is possible to make products with durable materials and without flame retardants. These car seats still meet federal flammability standards, but without the use of toxic chemicals. Flame retardants aren’t just for car seats. Many people continue to be born with persistent chemicals ie. per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Not so with Nuna Pipa Lite, which founder John used for his baby.

That’s why we love the Nuna and highly recommend the Nuna Pipa Lite as a more durable car seat.

Note, however, that despite being one of the best car seats out there, I only gave the Nuna a four-sheet rating. why? Due to Nuna’s lack of transparency regarding the production process and other resources. If the company responds and I like what I hear, it could easily be a 5 sheet car seat.

Nuna Pipa Urbn Baseless Infant Car Seat

Key features: This ultra-lightweight car seat is Greenguard Gold certified, PFAS and flame retardant free, available in luxury fabrics including GOTS cotton, and easy to cut. A great choice for toddlers!

Nuna has been making fire resistant car seats since 2019 and the Nuna Pipa Lite is the best choice for a more durable car seat. This very light chair weighs only 5.3 pounds. (no canopy or baby insert) and it’s all easy to lower, cut and carry.

All Nuna car seats are Greenguard Gold certified, which means they are free of the worst chemicals. This includes flame retardant chemicals, PFAS and many synthetic water repellent chemicals. The car seats are also designed to meet the strict European REACH standards for hazardous chemicals.

However, all Nuna Pipa Lite car seats are made with Aeroflex™, Tailor Tech™ or other proprietary foam materials and a variety of natural and synthetic fabrics for their covers (see below).

Nuna Pipa Review

The standard Pipa Lite and Pipa Lite LX pushchairs attach to the base of the car seats on all Nuna pushchairs and select premium pushchairs. Pipa adapters are available to attach the Nuna Pipa Lite to other Nuna brand strollers.

Despite its lightweight design, the Pipa Lite has a heavy-duty body that passes safety tests and will help protect your child in the event of an accident. The bottom and seat must be installed facing backwards using the UAS (Universal Attachment System) or seat belt (see PDF manual for installation instructions).

The Nuna Pipa Lite comes with a fully removable UPF 50+ cover that helps protect baby’s delicate skin from the sun’s harmful rays. It’s unclear whether this sun protection is from the weave of the fabric or some other type of chemical protection, as Nuna doesn’t specify its properties (more on that below).

Being able to attach a car seat harness to the side of the seat is a lifesaver, making getting your child into the seat easier.

Nuna Pipa Rx Infant Car Seat And Relx Base

Nuna was the first major car seat company that did not have flame retardants. This happened when in 2020 Nuna released a booster seat without accessories. Prior to this, Pipa car seats released flame retardants in January 2019, while Rava and Exec released them the following month.

Since the Aace optional seats took some time to become flame retardant, there is still a list of alternatives (in Aspen and Charcoal) that contain flame retardants. Nuna no longer makes these colors, but some stores may have older models that they continue to sell.

Nuna also avoids the use of PFAS and other water-repellent chemicals, and its seats meet stricter REACH standards than Greenguard Gold.

If you have an old Nuna car seat that you plan to reuse, you can contact Nuna to check if it is flame retardant. If you need to get rid of an old car seat, check out Target. The store offers a car seat sale program (in some states – check here) and offers customers a 20% coupon on new baby and children’s items in the store. Target then recycles the old chairs (over 17 million pounds of plastic to date!)

The Pipa Lite is a great choice if you’re expecting a little one, especially under 7 pounds, which is about the starting weight of most car seats. That’s because the Nuna includes a heavy birthing pillow behind the body support that can be used until baby is big enough without it (about 11 pounds). If you’ve had to carry a newborn in a large car seat with me, this model provides great peace of mind.

While Nuna itself provides little information about fabrics and materials, the online product listing suggests that the standard construction of the Nuna Pipa has a polyester lining, while the Pipa Lite has a cotton lining. GOTS certified knitted children’s clothing.

If you’re willing to pay a bit more, you can purchase the Pipa Lite LX, which has a merino wool and Tencel fiber blend lining and contains GOTS certified organic baby baby baby baby cotton. This model weighs over 5.7 pounds and fits children from 4 to 32 pounds and 32 inches tall (or children up to 18 months). Interestingly, the specifications for the Nuna Pipa Lite in Canada, where I live, state that the car seat is recommended for children between 4 and 22 pounds. only I asked Nunu to explain this matter again.

The Nuna Pipa Lite, like most car seats, is made of memory foam. So, like any memory foam product, the foam initially outgasses and breaks down over time, creating chemically charged dust. It’s good to clean the car seat regularly, which is easier to do with the Pipa Lite than with non-sliding car seats.

Nuna Pipa Lite Lx Review

The Nuna Pipa Lite can be used rear-facing for babies weighing 4 pounds and up. up to 22 pounds, which means you’ll have to outgrow it when your baby is 12 months old. This is one of the limitations of the Nuna Pipa Lite. Infant and toddler car seats are great for reducing resource usage (and saving money for cash-strapped parents!). The UPPA Baby, another top choice for a durable car seat, accommodates children up to 35 pounds.

If you’re paying attention to short-term items, Nuna also makes a convertible car seat — the Nuna RAVA Convertible Seat — for infants and children up to 50 pounds. It is covered with a polyester/bamboo blend fabric. Nuna also offers the EXEC All-In-One convertible car seat with polyester cover and merino wool child insert.

Nuna is not very transparent about its properties or production. I have reached out to Nuna for comment and await a response.

In particular, while Nuna appears to manufacture its products in China, there is no indication that its factories meet any standards such as BSCI or WRAP. Nuna makes vague performance claims on its website, but doesn’t deliver anything substantial. For example, the copy says that Nuna adheres to the “ISO 14000 international series of standards, which cover the company’s environmental responsibility, including the use of alternative fuel sources such as renewable solar energy, wastewater treatment, and the use of plastic waste for recycling. .and packaging programs.”

From these words, it is not clear whether Nuna itself uses solar energy in its factories, warehouses or offices; if Nuna has specific initiatives regarding recycling and packaging; or if Nuna has something higher than basic wastewater treatment standards. We would like to know exactly what Nuna is doing to protect the planet for future generations.

Overall, the Nuna Pipa Lite is one of the best car seat options out there. It is flame retardant and PFAS free, meets strict REACH standards and is Greenguard Gold certified, as well as being lightweight, durable and easy to use. This is very good if you are expecting a small baby.

Still, the Nuna has room for improvement, and if you’re expecting a medium-sized baby, you’ll be looking at a sturdy car seat that’s worth using for the first few years of baby’s life. and other baby accessories have been making parents’ lives easier for some time with the addition of car seats to this product line. The first to go on sale was the Pipa car seat, facing the traffic. Currently there are Pipa Lite rear-facing car seats, RAVA car seats and AACE booster seats.
