When driving the Mazda CX-30, I wondered what it would be like with the 2.5-liter turbo engine found in the Mazda6 and CX-9. The CX-30 is a joy to drive. The strong chassis and well-balanced suspension allow for good control of the car and the road, while the visual cues make things very interesting (only the BMW X1 and X2 score higher in this department). Mazda engineers also focused on keeping the sound. You can hear the distinctive sound of the 2.5-liter engine during acceleration, but at cruising speeds it is incredibly quiet. In fact, Mazda says the CX-30 is quieter than the CX-5.

The brakes are also much better than the CX-3, both in terms of pedal feel and stopping distance. The only problem here may be longevity, as evidenced by the new number of Mazda3 owners who are now having to replace their brakes. Could Mazda’s exhaust control system be to blame? As explained above, this feature improves control and stability and reduces the driver’s need to press the brake pedal to automatically stop the front brake during cornering. One thing’s for sure: the CX-30’s brakes work well, unlike many early Mazdas.
