The three-row CX-9 is Mazda’s entry into the large family segment, with an emphasis on power and driving style. The CX-9 doesn’t offer as much room as rivals like the Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer, but its four-cylinder turbo engine and stiffer suspension make it a fan favorite over seven-seaters like the Toyota Highlander and Kia Sorento.

The CX-9 plays at a time when Mazda is still under Ford: Mazda’s first-generation CX-9 was introduced in 2007 and was closely related to the Ford Edge, with the two SUVs working on the jointly developed CD3 platform.
