The owner’s manual doesn’t mention this, so I’m guessing you need a computer to test it?

There must be a towbar somewhere but I’m sure it’s not easy to find. A dipstick or plug.

On the Gen-1 CX-5, you can use the blue cold coolant temp gauge or use a cheap OBDII reader to get a pretty good ATF temp when reading the ATF level.

Yes, I did the Torque Pro route to be in the ballpark. I don’t think I checked the level before changing the ATF fluid. After good The car still runs great and shifts well.

The problem with this time-tested method is the CX hub pan. This pan can hold a lot of liquid before it drips onto the garage floor.

A little off topic but I just found out that the CRV CVT has a 30,000 mile CVT fluid change interval. The key to getting proper warranty coverage is if you don’t have proof that the warranty was replaced for $30k. You can damage it from miles away. Vendor costs are added to those that do not change automatically.

On the CX-5, you can replace it at double intervals at 60k (after the warranty expires) if you want.

As of 2017 (?), no service item has a fixed OCI, but uses a computer calculation to display maintenance codes for required service, items 1-7 for major A or B service items (oil change and more) and minor service items . . items (changing transmission oil 3). The 30K fixed bin CVT fluid OCI is not correct. In difficult driving conditions such as:

Interesting that Honda has short CVT oil change intervals. I’ve always worried about the CVT in my wife’s 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. There were problems with them, and Subaru extended the warranty to 100,000 miles (presumably to avoid a recall). So I took it to the dealer for a 30,000 mile checkup, but they said it was a “lifetime” fluid and they wouldn’t replace it. The 60,000 mile test is almost upon us and I might insist on a change.
