Mazda Cx 5 Manufacturer Warranty – As a seasoned watch enthusiast, I am almost obsessed with Seiko. Known for kicking sweet Swiss derrières since the 1960s, their watches have never lacked for premium designs, fully in-house precision mechanical movements and unbeatable prices.
The logic for consumers is simple, then: why spend a stupid amount of money on a good European product when Japanese manufacturers can offer the same level of refinement for a fraction of the price? It worked for Seiko, and they have enjoyed a loyal following around the world ever since.

I think the same is true of Mazda’s updated CX-5 here. Look at it. With curves to die for and a color palette that oozes sophistication, you’d be forgiven for thinking this is an offering from an automaker at the top of the totem pole.

Subtle visual improvements that most people on the road may not recognize, Mazda has retained the critically acclaimed Kodo design language, and I thank the automaker for this.
The front and rear bumpers have been subtly revised and now look more like a concept car than before, with unbroken lines and sharp creases throughout. The original pre-facelift design was already a winner, so these additional upgrades make the CX-5 even more attractive.
The LED headlight cluster, too, ditches the round elements in favor of new L-shaped ones. I particularly like the dark chrome-effect grille bars and the glossy honeycomb grille, both of which give the CX-5 a more menacing front profile.
Eagle-eyed observers will also notice a red accent on the top right of the grille, indicating the Sport Luxury trim level. The mid-level Luxury trim leaves it out, while the entry-level Elegance gets a matte-finish grille with lime green accents.

Mazda has also given a selection of their new best-selling new wheels. The sports luxury model has 225/65 R19 Toyo Proxus R46 tires and 19-inch aluminum wheels in black metallic, the latter contrasting with the rest of the car. This is especially true of Mazda’s now-iconic Soul Red Crystal Metallic found on our test car.
Expect nothing but premium quality when you step into the CX-5. Unlike the Japanese period, it is adorned with soft-touch materials at all the right touch points.
You get genuine leather upholstery (leather if you choose the Elegance trim), satin chrome trim pieces and red stitching. However, it must be said that the color of the cabin only comes in black, which makes it look tighter than it really is.
One design element I really like is the open space between the footrest and the brake pedal. Unlike most other cars … my left leg is forever bent when leaning on the footrest, and I can fully extend it in the CX-5, meaning it’s not as painful to handle after a long journey.

Like the Forester I just reviewed, the CX-5 has more physical and intuitive switchgear for key controls, which I agree with. All-round visibility is also excellent, and you get a head-up display that shows your travel speed along with other critical information.
The dashboard-mounted infotainment system certainly looks dated, with a UI that needs a proper refresh. Additionally, on-screen controls are limited to a single dial on the center console when the car is in motion. The screen is still responsive by modern standards, and any lag experienced is minimal.
In addition, the three-gauge cluster with a seven-inch LCD screen in the middle proved to be very smart and readable, while not burdening the driver with useless information like a well-tuned Seiko automatic.
Elsewhere, the CX-5 feels like a proper luxury car. You get powered and ventilated seats – perfect for our climate – with memory function for the driver’s side and a suite of USB Type A ports to charge your devices.

There’s a wireless charging pad up front, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto support (both wireless and wired) and a 12V socket inside.
The Sport Luxury and Luxury models have an excellent 10-speaker Bose premium audio system, though the base model is stuck with the standard six-speaker audio setup.
You won’t be short of space in the front or back. Legroom is generous for all passengers with a wheelbase of 2.7 meters. Headroom is also not neglected. During our tests, passengers up to 1.75m tall were able to sit comfortably inside without any problems.
Wrong You get 438 liters of space in the back, which is more than enough if you need to load it with a couple of full-sized luggage bags. Want more? Remove the tonneau cover or fold down the 40:20:40 split rear seat and you’re good to go. There’s even a kick sensor under the rear bumper, so you can open the electric tailgate even when your hands are full.

Since this is a mainstream crossover, you need to temper your expectations and know that you won’t get Patek Philippe levels of mechanical wizardry here. The powerplant is a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine that produces 165 horsepower and 213 Nm of torque; Fair enough for Singaporean standards, but not much in terms of refinement.
The power delivery, while linear, feels substantial and getting in and out of traffic is a nice feat. I was impressed with how responsive the six-speed automatic was, although the CX-5 was a bit noisy towards the higher end of the rpm range.
It excels at a problem faced by other internal combustion engines: a high compression ratio of 13:1 without the need for a turbocharger. It also benefits from better fuel economy; All this without any form of hybridization.
After driving around town and on the highway, I managed to clock around 12 kmpl, which is very close to the official figure of 14.3 kmpl.

When pushed hard, it is very nimble and smooth. Throw the CX-5 in a corner, and the chassis responds more like a saloon car than a high-riding SUV. As with any Mazda worth its salt, driving feedback is direct.
The CX-5 adds extra oomph with the company’s G-Vectoring Control Plus torque vectoring system, real-time cornering capability and control of engine torque and braking force to improve stability and control at the steering wheel.
It also helps to find more links on the rear wheels, which provides more agility and comfort when driving on challenging roads.
With a ventilated disc up front and a solid disc out back, there’s plenty of bite when it comes to stopping power. Pedal feedback is precise and never soft, which can’t be said of many other crossovers on the market.

Speaking of safety, you’ll be happy to know that the CX-5 has a suite of active safety features called Mazda i-Activsense, which includes Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
All of this is on top of the usual improvements we’ve come to expect from the Hiroshima-based automaker, such as six airbags and a 360° view monitor (the latter only available on the Luxury and Luxury Sport trim levels).
In many respects, the CX-5 is a comprehensive kit for a different demographic. As a premium watch from Seiko, it excels in almost all areas: efficiency, practicality and value for money. Perhaps just as important is the effortlessly beautiful style.
Aside from the outdated infotainment screen, the updated CX-5 is a very impressive offering from Japan’s last “maverick” automaker, and one that should be on your radar.
