Mazda Car 2023 Interior – Mazda has been at the forefront of trends with its interior design over the past few years. The learning curve inside Mazda’s new product isn’t steep because everything is exactly where you’d expect it and the tools are clean. Fortunately, Mazda has kept the physical controls for the ventilation system in the CX-50. As standard, the base model comes with a six-way manually adjustable front seat, an 8.8-inch color infotainment screen, and a 7-inch TFT LCD display with gauges. Surfaces come with faux leather or leather upholstery, and there’s a new Terracotta color scheme that’s particularly eye-catching. There are also premium features like a head-up display and heated front seats in the upper upholstery. Overall, the interior of the Mazda CX-50 is a great place to spend some time.

The CX-50 seats five people, and the increased wheelbase over the CX-5 means extra legroom and luggage space in the back. There’s plenty of legroom at 41.7 inches up front and 39.8 inches in the back, which is plenty of room for tall adults who will appreciate plenty of headroom. Rear hip room is also generous, but you’ll still want a small, slim person in the middle of the back row. The base model gets a manually adjustable driver’s seat, but only with the Premium package can you get six-way power adjustment.

Only the entry-level 2.5 S model comes with cloth upholstery, while the mid-range model has semi-leather and top models have leather upholstery. Most models have a black interior color scheme, but Terracotta is available for turbocharged variants. However, this inner plane cannot be matched with the black mica exterior. On turbocharged models, black leather features attractive camel stitching, while terracotta leather comes with orange stitching.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel is standard on all but the base model. As for the decorative additions, they are silver in the lower parts or appear in metallic black in more expensive models. As with other Mazda vehicles, the use of soft-touch materials gives the cabin a premium look.

Mazda isn’t setting any new standards for the CX-50’s cargo space segment, but it’s still useful. With all seats in their normal position, the CX-50 offers 31.4 cubic feet of trunk space. It’s slightly larger than the CX-5, but smaller than roomier trucks like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. A 60/40 remote-folding rear seat is standard on all but the base model. With the second row folded, the CX-50 has 56.3 cubes available for storing larger items.

There are four cup holders in the cabin – two in the front and two in the folding armrest at the rear. All models feature four-door pockets, glove box and front storage units. A rear center armrest with storage compartment has been added, which is preferred from the 2.5 S model. On the passenger side, there is a pocket on the back of the front seat, and each model, in addition to the basic trim, also has an overhead unit for storing sunglasses.

Aside from the base model, the Mazda CX-50 is generously specified. The 2.5 S comes with air conditioning, push-button start, a 7-inch TFT LCD screen and manual day and night mirrors. At this level, the driver has a six-way manually adjustable seat, and the front passenger has access to a four-way manually adjustable seat. Every other model ditches basic air conditioning for a more advanced dual-zone climate control system. Moving up trim levels, the CX-50 gets a power liftgate, a power panoramic sunroof, advanced keyless entry, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and ventilated front passenger seats. Most models have an eight-way power driver’s seat, but only the top-of-the-line Premium Plus Turbo model has heated seats.

Safety features are in line with what you’d expect from a modern SUV. Standard, all CX-50s come with a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, and pedestrian detection. Front/rear parking sensors, a surround display, and traffic jam assist are standard equipment.

Mazda doesn’t offer the best infotainment experience in its class, but it’s not the worst at all. The standard 8.8-inch screen is good, and Mazda’s Connect software is well-designed and easy to navigate. Mazda has enabled touchscreen functionality for standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay because it’s designed for that, but the screen is intended for the driver’s eye finder, not for use as a touchscreen. Instead, the turntable insertion system is well developed and easy to use. When driving, we prefer such a system over the touchscreen for the same reason as the Mazda – safety. An eight-speaker sound system also comes standard, but it can be upgraded to a Bose system that we can’t be too excited about. We wish Mazda would partner with a better, more thoughtful brand when it comes to in-car audio.

Two USB ports are standard, but two more are added in the back as well as a 10.25-inch screen up front and HD Radio when you move up to the 2.5 S option package. The next feature comes with the 2.5 S Premium package, which adds Audio Pilot, SiriusXM, and a Bose system that doesn’t Withstands. Turbo models have their own upgrade tree, but the components are the same. Navigation is standard on higher trims only.

However, as much as the 2023 Mazda CX-5 may seem too good to be true, it’s actually quite a car.

A real car looks more expensive than it actually is. A real car drives better than the vast majority of non-performance passenger cars, mainstream passenger cars, crossovers or otherwise. A real car for real people, so attractive, so good that you think, β€œIs this a scam?”

This generation of CX-5 may be from 2017, but in my opinion, its design is surprisingly dated. The design of the latest cars is often described as segmentation, but no one seems to intend to tell Mazda that. Aggressive but stylish, eye-catching but not flashy, the CX-5 is another compact crossover that other compact crossovers tell owners not to worry about. A subtle facelift for 2022 brought a slightly different front bumper and revised headlight and taillight signatures, while a striking Rhodium White Metallic paint job is new for 2023.

The car’s distinctive design also extends to the cabin. Clean, stylish, decently designed and crafted, and, I’d say, among the most luxurious materials in this class, the Mazda CX-5 is a pleasure to sit in. All buttons and switches are comfortable to use, and all knobs are shiny and textured. The finishes are almost luxurious – perhaps even surpassing some lower quality ‘luxury’ brands. I love the gray wood paneling that adorns this distinctive model and it matches the flooring in my apartment, while the limited use of black, chrome and light brown stitched leather is a delight. There’s a lot of attention to detail, and little things like the seat adjustment switches wouldn’t look out of place in a Lexus or Acura product. The rich choice of materials also extends to the rear seats, where soft plastic panels adorn the door panels.

The system is there. However, a big caveat is that it’s not a touchscreen. With specially controlled BMW iDrive-style buttons complete with physical button shortcuts for all important functions, it’s not a bad device to get used to after a short initial learning period. I completely understand why Mazda did this – using the touchscreen while driving is generally a bad idea – but it would be nice if things went back to the touchscreen when the car is parked a la the Genesis.

The rear seats are roomy for the class, with plenty of space under the front seats to allow backseat passengers to stretch their legs. The rear seats in the Premium Plus package and above are also heated, but their controls are on the fold-down center seat armrest, meaning you won’t be able to use them when driving with a full house. Luggage capacity is reasonably large, with the car able to accommodate a six-drawer chest of drawers, with the seats folded down during testing.
