The 2019 Lexus NX 300 AWD and the 2019 Acura RDX SH-AWD are two of America’s best crossovers. Both have their strengths and some weaknesses, but there are some big differences that buyers of the 2019 model should be aware of. The Lexus NX is a company launched in 2018 and has not undergone any major changes since it was launched a few years ago. The Acura RDX is a completely different car than last year. Here’s our breakdown of the key differences.
Lexus Nx 200t Vs Acura Rdx
Although both are two-row crossovers, the Acura RDX is now a larger car than the Lexus NX 300. The Acura RDX is now 5 inches longer, 1 inch wider, and 1 inch taller than the Lexus NX. Inside, we found the NX to be very comfortable except for the driver’s knee area. Our right knee often made contact with the hard plastic of the mid-sized cone. In comparison, the RDX is bigger and more spacious in this respect. Where the size difference is most noticeable is in the cargo area. With the rear seats up, the RDX has almost twice the volume of the Lexus NX.
Acura Rdx Offers Good Value For Luxury Suv Shoppers
Lexus NX is cheaper than Acura RDX. The NX 300 starts under $39k with AWD. The Acura RDX has a starting price of over $40,000. Our top-of-the-line Lexus NX tester (2018 model) had a list price of $45,560. A similarly equipped Acura RDX would cost around $49k. Neither has the same equipment, but our impression from looking at the specs is that the Lexus is about 10 percent cheaper at the top end and nearly as much in the base trim.
The Lexus NX 300 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 235 horsepower. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The RDX also has a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine but it is more powerful with a capacity of 272 horsepower. Acura also uses a state-of-the-art 10-speed automatic transmission. While both have plenty of power, the RDX feels quick in every situation. Both offer four-wheel drive.
EPA fuel comparison above. The Lexus NX has a 1 MPG advantage but requires more fuel. It’s a requirement, not a recommendation. The Acura RDX can run on 87 octane unleaded gasoline.
Our Lexus NX tester had the 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound System as part of the navigation package. It was good and met expectations. Our $48,395 A-Spec RDX (slightly less than the top trim) has Acura’s excellent ELS Studio 3D Premium audio system with 710 watts of power and 16 speakers (including on the roof). No system we’ve heard is better at any price. This is clearly a big advantage for Acura.

Lexus and Acura both have Apple CarPlay but not yet Android Auto. Acura said it plans to add the Android system to all buyers for the 2019 model year. Toyota has not followed through on this promise.
Both cars use touchpad interfaces. We’re not big fans of remote interface devices at Torque News. We prefer the simple touch screen system. This is washing water. Choose the one you like the most.
The RDX and NX 300 both have the option of a heated steering wheel, but both only offer the feature on higher trims. Acura offers a head-up display, but only in the upper part. Nor does it have a dynamic headlight (which moves from side to side when you turn). All of these options are available at a very affordable price on Mazda’s 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring crossover. We find it odd that these features aren’t standard on the RDX and NX 300. The Lexus NX has limited spare parts, and the Acura RDX only has spare parts on certain trim levels.
The Lexus NX 300 AWD offers an excellent driving experience with excellent cornering and stopping capabilities. Acura’s RDX has a comparable ride but has a slight edge in handling. They feel different. The NX feels more and more like a regular crossover. The RDX feels more like a performance coupe or sedan. This is a matter of personal preference.

In the past, these two people were closer to each other in many ways. For 2019, Acura departs from the previous formula in a significant way. We suspect that Lexus will follow suit next year. While the Acura RDX has the edge in terms of sound and performance, the Lexus is no slouch in these areas. The Lexus has a slightly lower price tag, and we think that if the folks at Lexus offer some common incentives, the NX could have a significant price advantage. However, the selling price can offset that profit. Size is the real difference between the two. Those who prefer a more compact car will love the Lexus, and those who want more space will find the RDX to their liking. Overview: The RX’s compact cousin, the 2022 Lexus NX offers a smooth ride, a comfortable interior, and a variety of powertrain options, including hybrids and plug-in hybrids. The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine seems a little stiff for our tastes, but the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine in the NX 350 gives the compact NX some much-needed life. Slightly less expensive than the 350 is the 350h hybrid with an impressive 37 mpg highway and a target of 450h+ plug-in. Still, at more than $55,000, that’s a significant increase in fuel economy on par with the regular hybrid. All trims except the base 250 come standard with four-wheel drive.
The NX’s driving style is more about comfort than cornering, and the cabin is quiet and comfortable. The NX is arguably sportier than its big brother, the RX, but is largely focused on agility rather than performance.
Inside, the cabin is comfortable and well equipped. We’re happy to report that the 2022 redesign will replace the previous infotainment system, which we weren’t a fan of, with a better touchscreen. There’s good visibility and plenty of storage for everyday items, although cargo space with the seats folded down is poor compared to the competition. We’re not big fans of the shifter in the NX, so it’s worth taking it for a test drive to get comfortable with it.
Standard features include leather-trimmed seats and various safety features, such as genuine leather, a large touchscreen and a sunroof.
