The Japanese manufacturer produces just over 1.6 million vehicles a year, making it the world’s 17th largest automaker and facing stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers. Although the company has been working on hydrogen-powered vehicles for decades, it has struggled to keep pace with electric vehicles.
Bolt said he sees “long-term value” and “synergies” in buying and supporting Mercedes-Benz from its shareholders, with Mazda building an “advanced” new Biocar by 2030. “We will change everything.
