Few users can afford such protection and comfort. But it’s not for everyone, and even those looking for a full-service security system need to know what they’re doing with Vivint.

But we say you should pay at least $1000 at the end of the day. Now, you might dismiss that number, especially when you consider that a DIY brand like SimpliSafe’s cheapest packs cost around $200.
But don’t worry about the costs just yet. Vivint doesn’t force you to pay everything up front. With their Flex Pay plan, you can extend it to 60 months. Of course, there are some caveats, but at the end of the day, you’re spending $10-30 a month on gear. Everything looks a little tastier now.

But here’s the thing: other companies add basic equipment to their packages. ADT’s plans cost a bit more, but all of these packages include three or more sensors and a touchscreen control panel. Everything is à la carte with Vivint. The advantage is that you have a much more customizable package. Of course, the downside is a higher startup bill.
Finally, Vivint requires professional installation, which costs $99 for all plans and packages. From what we’ve seen, this price is standard in the industry and certainly not a deal breaker. After all, having your system installed by a professional technician ensures that everything is properly set up and connected to the network.
All told, home security and automation with Vivint will cost you anywhere from $40 per month to $75 per month. If you buy devices up front, you can pay just $29.99 per month for professional monitoring, as Vivint does not offer free self-monitoring. Vivint pays a premium to the entire market.
