And bummer, not even a mile into the test run, I realized that the 6th row seats were a bit firm. It’s easy to find a comfortable seat when parked or cruising down the road, but the cushion doesn’t suit my sensitive rear end.
But I’m glad that, despite the insufficient cushioning, the seats of the Mazda6 never made me want to call the orthopedist. Two other disagreements should be noted. When you look in the rear view mirror, you will see a thick cable that is not visible. Another strong point of the 2016 Mazda6 is its ability to fit a 2-liter bottle under the door. Another nice detail is the solid feel you get when you operate one of the buttons scattered around. The brushed aluminum details on the door panels and the horizontal line running through the dashboard are poor or not of good quality.
Up front, the concrete jungle is no place to understand and enjoy the Mazda6’s SkyActiv pods. Mazda says the facelift improves NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) by 10 percent, but it’s hard to take the company’s claim at face value. Apart from the mechanical click sounds of the manual transmission when shifting gears, we couldn’t find any noticeable improvement in NVH over the Mazda6 2.2 diesel we tested two years ago.
That’s not to say that driving the Mazda6 in low city spec is a difficult experience; but you can’t help but feel that better insulation would quieten the 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine’s rumble. The relatively quick 15.5:1 powertrain ratio means effortless cruising around town. When you add a body shell that is 4865 mm (191.5 in) long and 1840 mm (72.4 in) wide, the car is not difficult to use in the city. Making U-turns and navigating tight parking spaces is a bit of a challenge.
Make no mistake about it; It’s hard to find a manual transmission car with a start/stop system that doesn’t go out of control when the key is depressed multiple times. Not only that, but the diesel-powered 2016 Mazda6 sedan also comes to life by suppressing vibrations.

Unlike the 2.0- and 2.5-liter gasoline-powered engines, our tester’s 2.2-liter turbodiesel was audible compared to the engines offered by the Germans. For example, this fat burner didn’t feed me, but smarter drivers can tell you that the SkyActiv-D 2.2 engine isn’t pure power.
The 175 HP engine may not appeal to European customers either. Unfortunately, the EU has strange laws that tax engines over 2 litres.
