Aspen White washes large straight steel panels with dual lights on either side and dual horizontal grilles. Below the headlights is a more horizontal rib that wraps around the front and houses the actual turn signal glass. Another thin cutting spear extends from here and runs through the wheel wells to the rear of the car. The long, straight hood wraps the front end nicely, with well-preserved vents, and the chrome window surrounds are well maintained, with shiny, soft Ray glass. The ivory fabric sunroof is electrically operated and presented in excellent condition with a clear plastic rear window. At the rear, there are fin-mounted taillights, dual vertical turn signals and a large chrome surround around the pillar. Chrome fenders combined with sidelights after trim became fenders … not until 1964. All 4-corner “Sabre” wheels have light rust on center tracks. They are wrapped in thin, white-walled tires.

Hitting the test track with a quick start, smooth idle, smooth power and nice transitions it works well in all conditions. Instant panic stops, good smooth handling (remember this is a BIG car!), nice cruiser. All these amenities have been found to be effective.

This stunning 1964 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible has won numerous awards, including a first place trophy and second place at the 2017 Cadillac Grand Nationals. That’s after 22,000 miles of driving at every event over the past 15 years of ownership. He achieved “venerable” status in the Cadillac LaSalle Club with five straight first-place wins. Eldorado comes with many trophies and banners for different events.
The Eldorados livery received a metallic spray over the original Firemist Aquamarine (color code 94-2) in 2017, with four coats of clear coat. Stripping an Eldorado down to the metal is no easy (and not cheap) job! The color is amazing and fills and builds beautifully to give a very deep glow with minimal flaking. Chrome and stainless steel are original and in good to excellent condition. Cadillac had very good quality chrome from the factory and this example was good.
The interior was updated in 2007 with Aquamarine leather (Trim Code 16) and is in excellent condition today. Most Eldorados have not been restored with leather due to the cost, but done well – that’s how many contests are won. In 2004, the white hatch was replaced along with the interior. The power sunroof works fine with no problems. We love the Eldorado’s wood trim. The wood veneer on this example is in good condition. Some of the finishes are original while others have been updated.
Mechanically, this Eldorado rides very well. For 2018, the transmission received a new turbo and flex plate, and the 429 cu V8 engine was rebuilt from 1980. The brake master cylinder and power brake were also replaced in 2018. The A/C worked but cut off when the brakes were applied. New compressor and dryer recently installed. The wide white radial walls have about 4,000 miles of wear for added safety and ride comfort.
