Is There A New Mazda 2 Coming Out – After making its world debut in Thailand in June this year, the new 2023 Mazda 2 facelift has now made its way to Malaysia. The compact model continues to be fully imported (CBU) from Thailand and is now priced from RM108,670 on-road, excluding insurance – an increase of RM5,000 from before.
As before, the new 2023 Mazda 2 will also be offered in hatchback and sedan models, both at the same price. However, if you opt for the signature Soul Red colour, this will cost an additional RM500, bringing the sticker price to RM109,170. Bermaz Motor also offers an optional Activ-e window tint film priced at RM1,900.

We don’t have the same extensive styling options as our neighbors to the north, but the new Mazda 2 in Malaysia still comes with a pretty extensive makeover, especially at the front. It is based on the ‘Sport Design’ variant in Thailand, characterized by the new racecar-inspired honeycomb grille, which is combined with revised lower air intakes for a more aggressive, sporty look. For a little flair, the grille is also marked with a little red paint.

The same red accent is also found on the rear bumper, although it is quite inconspicuous and can easily be confused with the rear reflectors. Other exterior revisions include a new design for 16-inch alloy wheels in two-tone black and chrome finish as standard. Automatic LED headlights with signature lighting are also standard, although the taillights remain lit with bulbs. However, the hatchback version gets LED lighting for the rear fog lights and reversing lights.
Inside, the new 2023 Mazda 2 remains largely unchanged from before, with the key update being new black leather trim, contrasting suede inserts and red contrast stitching to match the racecar-inspired exterior. Otherwise, the onboard equipment is largely unchanged from before, including the infotainment system, which will remain in the seven-inch unit, rather than the newer, larger eight-inch unit seen in Thailand.
Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity are thankfully still standard, as are single-zone automatic climate control, six speakers, paddle shifters, manual seats, a head-up color display and a reversing camera. As part of the 2023 upgrade package, the Mazda 2 now has an automatic interior mirror along with a new cruise control function for added convenience – although there are still no advanced driver assistance features.
Unchanged in the 2023 Mazda 2 is the powertrain, which continues to feature the same naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-four engine mated to a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission. Performance is estimated at 114 hp and 149 Nm, with the drive being sent to the front wheels only.

The new 2023 Mazda 2 will be available in six colors in total, including Snowflake White Pearl, Soul Red Crystal, Platinum Quartz, Polymetal Gray (hatchback only) and the new AirStream Blue (hatchback only) and Aero Gray (sedan only). Although, as we mentioned above, the Soul Red Crystal signature color will set you back another RM500.

The two most affordable Class 2s – Pure and Pure SP – come with a host of custom features inspired by the sophisticated Kodo design language.
These unique offerings include three colored instrument panels in Pure White, Mirror Black or Mint, as determined by the car’s exterior finish.
Based on the sporty 2 Genki of a decade ago, the Evolve and flagship GT versions of the updated 2 have adopted a similar dynamic philosophy.

Inside, the Evolve and GT are finished with a stark black interior contrasted with red highlights that extend to the seat seams and air vents.
The GT takes it to another level with partial leather seats, red and black dashboard, all-new aircraft-inspired multi-spoke alloy wheels and polished dual exhaust tips.
In addition to the Pure, all grades are equipped with an improved “shark fin” antenna that enhances the 2’s sleek aesthetic.

Changes to the small city car are limited, but welcomed by those who want to pick up the keys to one. The changes start at the front with a new grill that includes a revised grill that can be done in either black or the same color as the rest of the exterior.
Mazda’s designers then incorporated a small color accent in the grill, finished in either yellow or red depending on the model. Full powertrain and pricing information has not been announced. What we do know is that the new Mazda2 will go on sale in Australia in June, with deliveries starting in July. In terms of styling changes, the Mazda 2 gets a new grille with a black honeycomb mesh insert with a slight red accent for some contrast. There’s also a black bezel for the grille, while the lower intake has a tapered look.
This red accent is also applied to the slightly modified rear bumper, which sits invisibly above the chrome finish on the exhaust. The Mazda 2 also gets a new design for 16-inch alloy wheels, which come in a two-tone black and chrome finish. LED headlights remain standard, although they now get an automatic on/off function. Other changes include a rain-sensing wiper as well as auto-folding side mirrors.
The Mazda2 May Be Coming To The United States
Moving on to the interior, the Mazda 2’s dashboard remains familiar, with all controls right where they’ve always been before. Newly added features are an auto-dimming mirror and cruise control, while the dashboard is now available in black combined with black leatherette and suede seat covers with red contrast stitching.
Aside from these changes, the rest of the Mazda 2 remains unchanged from before. You still get bulb-like taillights and rear fog lights, keyless entry and start, four rear parking sensors, single-zone automatic climate control, six speakers and a rearview camera. The latter two elements are connected by an infotainment system that sticks to a 7-inch touchscreen instead of the newer and larger 8-inch unit.
The B-Class also still gets dual airbags in addition to a host of passive safety systems such as ABS, EBD, brake assist, DSC, traction control, seat belt reminders for all seats, warning horn. The previously mentioned cruise control is accompanied by reverse start assist and a reverse hold function.
