I recently purchased a 2001 F-150. When I first checked the transmission fluid level it appeared to be overfilled but the fill tube assembly was damaged and I found it to be incorrect.

I bought a new transmission fill tube from the dealer last week and they installed it. When I removed the old filler tube, a lot of transmission oil came out. I held the old tube up to the new tube and they seemed to be the same size and length. I added a quart of transmission fluid and the dipstick seems to indicate that it is full. The transmission continued to slip when upshifting, so I added another 1/2 pint (once or twice) until it stopped. no more dipstick
It was in range but it was also in that range when there wasn’t enough fluid in it to run properly, so i don’t trust it. Even though the transmission seems to be working fine, I am still concerned that it is still not good enough. I don’t want to fill it too much either…
I have the Ford service manual for this car. According to the manual and my Ford workshop certificate, the transmission is AODE 4R70W (tr code U). This model is sometimes equipped with a 4R100.
The Youtube video talking about the 4R70W seems to have a similar dipstick but my concern is that the dipstick looks more like the picture in the workshop manual in the 4R100 section than the picture in the 4R70W section . The pictures aren’t very good but I’m just trying to figure out why the dipstick is full and I’m still having problems when it comes out.

I thought about draining the torque converter pot and drain, but even the specs say I should use the gauge to fill.
What do I want to do? Should I add an extra 1/2 pint just to be safe? Do you think I have the correct dipstick? If it helps, I can take a picture of the dipstick coming out of the old fill tube to show how it shows the level relative to the fill tube hole in the transmission.
One way to make sure you get the value is to completely drain the transmission and torque converter (and replace the filter), and add the exact amount as the manual calls for. However, this may not be practical at this time.
This may or may not be related to the extra trans fluid. Too much can cause diarrhea and constipation problems. It also means that other things may not be right.

Look at the signs of cold and heat; On a warm engine, the fluid level should be somewhere between. Whether the transmission is half full or completely drained, it is always a good idea to add transmission fluid gradually.
