The Chicco NextFit is a great convertible car seat with lots of great features. This chair is one of the best looking things in the collection. It’s impossible not to love this product with its easy-to-install SuperCinch strap and comfortable padding, quality design and attention to detail. Unfortunately for NextFit, the competition for convertible seats in this collection was stiff and scarce compared to high-end car seats. NextFit’s real sticking point is that all of the Britax products we tested scored with ease of installation benefits and some with better crash test results. We think parents might be happy with Chicco, but they might be happier with an alternative like Graco Extend2Fit or Britax Emblem.

Chicco is an Italian brand with over 30 years of experience. In the US, they are known for their Keyfit range of car seats (check out our best baby car seat review) and their superior performance. Pharmaceutical manufacturer Pietro Catelli founded Chicco in 1958. After the birth of her first child, she devoted herself to producing better solutions for parents and babies by producing baby care products for every stage of the child. Chicco also sells a variety of baby products, from hand-held bottle warmers to portable high chairs.

The Chicco shell is larger than most shells on the head of the chair. There is also EPS foam to help absorb impact in the event of a crash.

Chicco NextFit crash test results show that this seat meets and exceeds the minimum federal safety guidelines as defined in FMVSS 213. When testing the Britax Allegiance, the sensor on the head of the crash test dummy had the lowest G-force of the group, while the chest sensor of the Clek Foonf Dummy recorded the lowest amount of G-force.

This Chicco NextFit has an alternate belt that the manufacturer calls “SuperCinch”, which uses a pulley type system that makes LATCH belts easier to tighten than standard belts.

One thing that makes this seat easy to install using LATCH is the SuperCinch strap design on the LATCH connections. This feature allows you to pull one side of the cable to tighten the fasteners, then the other side with super tension, making it tighter quickly and with less effort. Chicco is easy to handle, although we have struggled to get enough of them in other competitions. On the floor, the base is wider than the LATCH connectors, making it difficult to install the seat as the floor digs into the connection and hinders stability. The recline adjustment has many options and is easy to adjust, even in the rear-facing position. Many testers prefer to use the LATCH setting on the Chicco.

The bubble level indicator on the Chicco is easier to use than the line indicator on most competitors.

In the Chicco, seat adjustment is done from the front of the seat, which makes adjustment difficult when the seat is rear facing.

The scale on Chicco is a water symbol with a bubble on it (top left). For proper installation, the bubble must be at the specified level. The fixed adjuster at the bottom of the front seat (top right) has a lever to help achieve the installation angle.

Chicco’s two-piece belt lock helps make it one of the easiest locks to use.

The Chicco has a belt system that requires you to remove the seat before installing the belt. The belt goes under the seat cover, but there’s no way to see what you’re doing, so you have to buckle it by feel. The belt was easier to close than most competitors, but the belt was difficult to put on. An additional problem is that when you find a car seat belt that is strong enough to be comfortable to wear, the seat belt buckle is difficult to use because it is tight and prevents the lock from closing. Overall the seat is easy to install, but it doesn’t have the same level of comfort as some competing car seats, and we didn’t really like the final installation as the Britax options felt more secure.

Chicco offers a unique chest clip with two width adjustments. This feature made the chest clip difficult to use and did not seem to improve its performance.

The ease of use race was strong for this top car seat group, with some of the highest scorers. Chicco performed above average but nothing to praise.

The Chicco buckle is hard and difficult to use. The cupboard lid has a different shape that offers two different widths. We assume that this is for the comfort of children, whether larger or smaller than the average child, but we are not sure if the compensation is rare due to the discomfort of the performance of this clip. The adjustable clip means you’ll have to pull twice when you want to remove it if it’s in a tight spot.

To adjust the height of the seat belt in the Chicco, the button on the top of the head must be pressed and the entire headrest adjusted to the desired height.

Strap length adjustment is a non-retractable style, which is accomplished by pushing the handle on the seat/headrest (top left) and moving the mechanism up or down to the desired position. This feature is one of the easiest to use of all, and we love that it can be done while flying with a child in the seat. This way, parents can make adjustments when they recognize the need, rather than procrastinating and forgetting. This harness has six length options and two crotch strap positions.

The tension strap and strap release button are located near the bottom of the seat. The cable moves smoothly and does not require a lot of force to use. The release button is shown on the fabric and padding and is pressed without hesitation.

LATCH storage is a hard plastic pocket located on each side of the Chicco seat base. It’s a little tricky to get it to fit properly, but once it’s in the right place it works.

The Chicco user manual storage pocket is in an easily accessible place to prevent damage or loss.

Chicco has one of the best LATCH security designs of the hill. The handles and straps are stored in plastic pockets on the side of the seat (top left). The handles and straps already fit in the pocket, and it might take a few tries to figure that out, but once they’re out of the way. The connection cable and hook are also stored in a plastic bag at the back. it has a door. This bag is easy to use with a LATCH anchor on the side for security and closes without any hassle.
