If your car won’t start, there are a number of electrical problems that are the problem. Jump starting your car can give you enough charge to get you where you need it, but it can also cover electrical problems that drain the battery, whether it’s old or new.
You should test the battery before replacing it. There are other reasons for a battery that won’t start or dies, including alternator problems, a short circuit, or another electrical problem. If this is not resolved, the new battery will discharge and the car will not restart.

Put the car in park, turn it off and remove the key. Make sure the engine is cool before installing the battery. Most car batteries are mounted in a plastic or metal tray under the front cover. Some cars have a battery in the trunk.
The batteries have two stems to which the cables connect. They can be covered with plastic sheets. It will be black (negative) and red (positive). Terminals can also be marked for positive and – negative.
How To Change A Car Battery
Disconnect the negative cable first. Wearing work gloves and safety glasses, use a wrench to loosen the bolt connecting the negative to the battery terminal. Once detached, gently twist the cable connector while lifting to remove it from the battery terminal.
Then remove the positive cable. Using a screwdriver, loosen the bolt that connects the cable to the battery terminal. Once loose, gently twist the cable connector back while lifting to remove it.
Car batteries are secured with a metal rod or base with a metal clamp. Loosen the bolt that secures the retainer or bracket as you remove it and remove the battery from the vehicle. Batteries contain a corrosive liquid, so always remember to handle them properly.
Quick tip: so you don’t forget anything, take a photo with your phone to remember what the connections look like when the battery is fully charged.

Clean the connectors and the battery compartment with battery cleaner and a wire brush. Or you can make a baking soda paste by mixing two tablespoons of baking soda with one teaspoon of water. Use steel wool to clean the inside of the plugs, then dry everything thoroughly.
Make sure the position of the new battery matches the red and black terminals. Slide the new battery into the vehicle and onto the mounting plate. Attach the bracket or handle and tighten the bolt to secure it.
