University In Christchurch New Zealand – Ara Institute of Canterbury, often referred to as Ara, is a technical institute in Canterbury, New Zealand. It was established in 2016 following the merger of Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) and Aoraki Polytechnic.
Ara specializes in applied higher education. Subject options include business, dining, architecture, healthcare, creative arts, hospitality, video games, skiing, languages, outdoor education, and broadcasting. Learning is between Level 1 and 9. On 1 April 2020, Ara was included in the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology along with the other 15 institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs) in the country.
Ara has six campuses in Canterbury and North Otago (three in Christchurch and one each in Ashburton, Timaru and Oamaru), making it the largest university in the South Island. In 2016, Ara began offering online learning opportunities to New Zealand students through the TANZ eCampus. Lincoln provided on-campus university housing for 570 students. All students living in campus housing have their own room. Housing is in the form of a dormitory or apartment, full or self-catering, which is shared with national and/or international students.
Our team works with you from start to finish throughout the study abroad process. Our program staff will guide you through the application process to go abroad, then upon arrival in New Zealand you’ll meet our team who will support you while in country. Throughout the semester you will meet with resident directors in Christchurch for informal discussions and tours. Our staff is available to help you with any academic, social or cultural questions or issues you may encounter abroad.

Students enroll in 3-4 courses (45-60 Lincoln credits) per semester, which typically transfer as 12-16 US semester credits or 18-24 US quarter credits.
Students register approximately one month prior to departure through the Lincoln online system. Students will complete on-campus registration during Lincoln International Orientation.

Lincoln’s agribusiness courses are designed to equip students with a practical understanding of the core business concepts and unique business considerations needed to meet the future demands of this multi-billion dollar industry.
Students follow 3 or 4 courses during the semester in parallel with an internship. Internships are unpaid and vary between 15-20 hours per week.
