The updated 2022 Mazda MX-5 sports car has arrived in Australia, with new features and more power as standard, but also a higher price.

Mazda Mx 5 Miata Rf Price, Value, Ratings & Reviews

At the heart of the update is Mazda’s first-ever 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, previously only available in the base Roadster, with the more powerful and popular 2.0-liter now standard on every MX-5. Click here for more information.

As a result, the price of entry-level Roadster models (with either transmission) has increased by $1,700. These include lane departure warning, attention warning, rear parking sensors, rear automatic emergency braking, auto-dimming rearview mirror and LED daytime running lights.

It’s always been powered by a 2.0-liter engine, but for 2022, the price of the entry-level RF folding hardtop version with the above-mentioned performance increases by $700, while the rest of the range costs up to $400.

It’s worth noting that the price increases listed include a $100 increase that goes into effect on February 1st.

New for 2022, the KPC (Kinematic Posture Control) system (formerly known as Sport Posture Control) is, simply put, designed to lower the body and reduce roll by applying low braking force to the inside rear wheel during cornering.

Mazda claims that the KPC system will not add weight to the vehicle because it is new software for existing brake and suspension components that improves the MX-5’s handling and “does not alter daily driving conditions.”

Other new features for 2022 include Platinum Quartz metallic color available across the range and the addition of Terracotta Nappa leather option for the RF GT. However, this is only possible if you opt for the black roof variant.

New 2023 Mazda Mx 5 Miata Rf Grand Touring Convertible In Tulsa #p0558471

Alex Misoyannis has been writing about cars since launching his website Redline in 2017. He contributed in 2018, joined CarAdvice in 2019, and became a regular reporter on the news team in 2020. From browsing car magazines as a young man to growing up around high-performance cars, cars have played a central role in Alex’s life. A loving family. In an increasingly sophisticated world of performance cars, the crisp, clean, raw Mazda MX-5 Miata RF shows everyone how it works. It’s fun to drive and easier to live with than a regular Miata. The only downside is the price. Starting with the midlevel Club trim, the standard Miata Sport trim is not available on the RF. Combined with the RF Command’s premium, it’s significantly more expensive than a regular Miata.

Sport-utility vehicles with retractable hardtops are typically expensive luxury models you can afford, but that’s not the case with the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF. It’s certainly on the small side, but its diminutive stature and nimble handling give it something most high-performance hardtops lack: pure driving pleasure. While other sports cars offer more power and more features, the Miata just wants to put a big smile on your face.

Driving Costs Driving cost estimates for the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Grand Touring 2dr Convertible (2.0L 4 cylinder 6M) and similar vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (55% city, 45% highway driving combined). North Dakota gas mileage rate for the unleaded variety is $3.83 per gallon.

Car Review: 2020 Mazda Mx 5 Rf Keeps Its Fun Loving Heart

Most people are familiar with the standard MX-5 Miata (reviewed separately) and its traditional soft top. The Miata RF comes with a power-folding hardtop that can be quickly lowered for fun in the sun or left behind when needed. With the top up, the RF transforms into a stylish fastback coupe that offers better insulation than a soft top. It’s a little heavier than the squishy Miata, but just as fun to drive. On the other hand, it costs more than the regular Miata because it lacks the Miata RF’s more sophisticated dynamic hardtop and cheaper sport trim.

The 2023 MX-5 Miata RF is an affordable, purpose-built sport utility vehicle with great styling and nearly unparalleled handling. However, due to its small size, this is not a viable option for many people. If you need something a little bigger but still easy to drive, consider the Toyota GR86. Or, if you want more muscle, the Ford Mustang convertible might be a better choice. There’s also the Mini Convertible, another small, fun-to-drive car. If you’re not sure if the Miata RF is right for you, read our test team’s in-depth reviews in our expert review below.

While I don’t have an MX-5 Miata RF as a long-term test car, I do own not one, but two fourth-generation (current-generation) regular Miatas. Aside from the roof design, both versions of the Miata are nearly identical. We got a 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata and drove it over 20,000 miles. Then, when Mazda updated the Miata, we bought a 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata to see if the updates, including a more powerful engine, would make a difference. Check out the link above for our thoughts on the compact sports car’s performance, comfort, fuel economy, and more.
