Front-wheel drive 2016 Mazda CX-5 Sport comes with a choice of two powertrains. EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 2.0-liter Sport FWD version is 29 mpg (26 city/35 highway). All FWD CX-5s with a 2.5-liter engine get the same 29 mpg (26/33) and 26 (24 city / 30 highway) with all-wheel drive (AWD).
Road Test Review
In testing, the CX-5 with a 2.5-liter engine and AWD sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 8.0 seconds, a very respectable number for this class.
Every 2016 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front airbags and side curtain airbags. The automatic departure warning feature is optional on the Sport and standard on the Touring and Grand Touring, which also calls for blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alert systems.
Available on the Touring and Grand Touring, the City Smart Brake Support system uses a laser sensor to detect stationary objects in front of the vehicle (such as a stopped vehicle or pedestrians) at speeds up to 19 mph. The Grand Touring can also be equipped with the i-ActiveSense package, which includes adaptive cruise control, Intelligent Brake Assist (allowing automatic braking at higher speeds than the city system), and departure warning and automatic long beam control. On CX-5s equipped with an automatic transmission, remote door locking is possible via the optional Mazda Mobile Start smartphone app.

Powered by a 2.0-liter engine base, the Mazda CX-5 offers competitive power on paper, but in the real world, it does not feel strong when merging and through maneuvers.
