I thought the discussion started about using a 4-speed AT on the Jimny. I don’t know where you are going with this.
However, the only thing I can say is that the 5-speed is more efficient than the 4-speed. 6-speed is more efficient than 5-speed. You can get a reliable 5 and 6 speed transmission. I don’t think reliability is an excuse to pay for a 4-speed.

I think you will find that Scorpio S10 AT gearbox has mentioned ATF change in Scorpio S10 service manual at 60k service. I have the same car and just completed this fluid change. Gearshifts are now very smooth, always smooth but even better after the shift.
Most TC gearboxes are reliable as long as they have ATF timing changes, don’t expect the Jimny 4 Speed TC to be any different.
I’m happy with the launch, and if you’re cheaper than the tar, this will be my second car in my SUV garage (I now have a Scorpio S10 automatic).
AT boxes typically have 10L of ATF, about 50% of which is in the torque converter, cooling lines and coolant.

When the ATF is replaced, only the drop pan is removed to replace 50% of the old ATF with the new one. Watering is a different process where almost all ATFs are converted.
In this case, Mahindra “changes” at 60K. Ideally, they should change 30K to 60K.
Not sure about the new “lock for life” AT boxes either. I don’t think they have the maintenance requirements as per the car maintenance schedule.

How Much Does It Cost To Change Transmission Fluid?
My old simple AT gearbox had a dip stick to check the ATF level and a drain to drain the oil. The same port is also used to fill ATF. That means one can keep these boxes at home.
Now in newer AT boxes, the dipstick has been removed which makes checking the fluid a long process and these cannot be carried out at home.

Planetary gear sets, clutches and brakes – apart from the basic principle of how it works, they are not all the same. The quality of content, design and production are not the same. Regular Aisin is more reliable than DSI and is not a high-end processor.
What Is A Transmission Fluid?
I have done 84xxxKM on my Aisin 6 speed and few have crossed 1lac + Km without any problem. Mahindra uses the same transmission in its new Scorpio and Thar, they did away with the DSI for good. The XUV uses another Aisin 6-speed transaxle.
Transmission oil changes are not called standard service on Aisin-equipped Toyotas, but they can be done. But the pan has plastic filling, plastic draining and transfer. I understood the importance of changing the ATF a few years ago when I lost my 2007 Honda Accord 2.4L and damaged the standard AT in that car without knowing how to change the ATF. The standard AT is very durable and calls for replacing the ATF as described in the manual. If you don’t, you’re asking for trouble with the ATF stuff if you go for a bogus belief like ‘sealing for life’.

A lesson learned the hard way in the current 2008 Honda Accord 2.4L. I replaced the ATF as per the manual. Jobs were equal. I keep an eye on the ATF level and color. It is important to replace the ATF with the OEM specified ATF. Another important fact is that you cannot pop the hood on my car and remove the ATF stick to check levels or color because it is misleading. First, when it starts to cool, start the engine and wait for the radiator fan to turn on for the first time, then turn the engine off and wait a few minutes. Then I can go ahead and remove the ATF level stick to check the level and color.
Another preventative maintenance (guards) that can or should be done for reliability is to install an external liquid-to-air exchange liquid cooler instead of the stock cooler, which is a liquid-cooled type.
The stock transmission fluid cooler is a low temperature type similar to some engine oil coolers, a closed can where the coolant and ATF circulate in circuits separated by thin metal walls. In larger cars it becomes part of the car radiator. A tank under the radiator has two internal lines that circulate the ATF to the radiator filled with coolant / water.
With age and mild corrosion, the walls separating the coolant and the ATF can lead to a liquid mixture known as red milk. When this happens the transmission is good-bye and will require expensive repairs and it’s not clear if a new cleaning will fix it. If the injury wasn’t bad, it would have worked.

However, what can be done as a long-term owner or patron (some vehicles are difficult to upgrade/replace due to the performance/power/reliability hybrid offering) is to go from heat to heat and change its operation. Cooler in the form of a liquid-air-outdoor air conditioner in front of the radiator. In doing this you need to choose the right size transmission cooler and place it right near the radiator and front fan area. Once it’s done it will last the life of the car and no worries about the mixture atf!
Some cars with “pull” packages or special applications come with small liquid-to-air intercoolers before the radiator, but these run in series with the liquid-cooler intercoolers. They don’t pass.
I have installed an external transmission coolant here instead of the stock coolant in the radiator. While it is at temperature, the scan could be compared before and after use. I didn’t install it on the car this time because the installation wasn’t perfect, but I plan to do it again.
A few more thoughts on this topic. There are many vehicles where the manufacturer claims the transmission is “locked for life”.
