The consortium bought a vacant Value City furniture store at 4233 Lafayette Road, which it plans to turn into a global village. It serves as a hub for people to experience many cultures in one place, with a kitchen, dance studio, gift shop and a museum displaying artifacts from different continents.

“We have enough artifacts to fill 2,000 square feet in Asia alone,” Clark said. “Because there are so many artifacts from Asia, we can do Asia three times, but Africa and Europe can be full.”

The India Global Marketplace Consortium said donations of artifacts from the US and South America are still needed.

Mohammed Abshir Al Rayan runs the restaurant. He said they serve Yemeni food seven days a week and look forward to the upcoming Global Village.

“Every day I meet new people in my restaurant and I want them to learn about Yemeni culture. I think it’s a great opportunity for the global community to get to know us,” Abasher said.

The Global Village will have event space and a stage to host events, including the 14th annual Diversity Festival.

“Imagine traveling somewhere and enjoying food from around the world. We have about 30 restaurants at that event, and it’s not just food. They get some culture and education; It’s a great opportunity,” Clark said.
