Antique Toy Cars For Sale
Antique Toy Cars For Sale – As you may have noticed, I like to write about car collections from time to time. Whether it’s a plastic model kit, a toy car or a radio-controlled car, most of us started building cars or playing with some form of miniature cars as kids. Without those toys or models, there’s a good chance we wouldn’t be the car enthusiasts we are today.
So, keeping this in mind, I thought I should do something different this time. Instead of sharing someone’s most elaborate full-scale creation or visit to a great collection store, I want to share something a little more personal.

You will find a large box of toy cars that my younger brother and I spent countless hours collecting, playing with and sometimes destroying during our childhood.

The jar has been sitting on a shelf at my parents’ house for years – probably waiting until my brother and I had children of our own.
Although I don’t know how much our future children will be interested in old toy boxes, the other day I picked up a very heavy car box and decided to check it out. What I found was a wave of nostalgia and I thought it would be interesting to share some of that content here.
Cars in the Box represented a small portion of the cars and trucks my brother and I owned as kids, and our toy boxes were filled with everything from Micro Machines to Tonka Trucks. Most of them have been thrown away, sold or donated – but this box is intact.
We played something with an airplane or a military vehicle. You won’t find action figures or fantasy toys in our house. I will always remember the sound of toy cars being dropped onto the living room floor for a play session.

Along with childhood toys, the box also includes the slot machines we bought as teenagers. Even as middle schoolers and high schoolers, we never stopped buying diecast cars, and now they’ve all been stuck in a pile of collectible cars for over a decade.
Got all the cars in this box. Some were bought by our parents for good behavior on shopping trips, some were bought from us second-hand with our weekly allowance, and some we went to swap meets with our fathers.
The range of toys in the box is huge. Thrift stores from the 80s and 90s carry hot wheels and matchboxes and collector’s items like Johnny Lightning and Racing Champions cars.
While some of these fairings were designed with the collector in mind, we saw them in play when opening up the car’s sound. Wear and tear certainly speaks for itself.

Next, I thought I’d go through the box and pick out cars that are particularly interesting, nostalgic, or just plain weird.
Some of the cars in the box are really old – like this Matchbox Pontiac Grand Prix built in the ’60s. Apparently we didn’t get this when it was new, so it must have come from a swap meet somewhere.
This Mini is one of the original Matchbox cars of the 60s and 70s. Unlike most box cars, this car is actually well maintained.
Throwed some old school Hot Wheels in there too. I remember this VW vanagon as one of my favorites to play with, although I was disappointed that the motorcycle couldn’t be removed from the rear.

I was amazed at how different our childhood taste in toy cars was from today’s taste in real cars. Here is a Porsche 935 that has played a lot.
How is it This is a 1970s Japanese Tomica Winnebago RV. I wish the childhood version of me knew that as an adult I would go to Japan and buy Tomica die casts.
Some of the cars in the box I immediately remembered, others were harder to remember. This is a Play Art Honda S800 that I apparently paid 50 cents for at a swap meet or yard sale.
I probably didn’t know what an S800 was at the time, but for some reason it felt right to add to the collection.

Here’s a Mk1 VW Golf that one of us decided to customize with racing stripes; Drawn with a sharpie marker of course.
Anyone remember Connectables? They are matches that you can separate and mix with each other. I had a crush on him in the late 80s. Unfortunately most of mine have been lost over the years and only dragsters and Porsche 935 rears remain.
Digging through the mound I found this Datsun 240Z that came with its chassis at some point. Can’t remember the manufacturer but see the action style flares and spoilers.
How about this “futuristic” Matchbox Z32 300ZX from the early 90s? Dig these modern graphics and timeless wheel design…

Ironically, some of our favorite cars to play with aren’t exotics or race cars, but tow trucks and other blue-collar vehicles.
This matchbox truck was one of my favorites. As you can see, it is not the same size as the one carried by the VW Beetle.
Another favorite is the Hot Wheels tow truck, which actually works with a hook attached to the car.
Looking for more nostalgia? How about this Hot Wheels Dodge Caravan? I don’t know why we bought it, but those graphics and wheels were so 90s.

I remember the “new” 1990 Dodge Ram being pretty cool, so this NASCAR-style Hot Wheels was a favorite.
Depending on their condition and age, some of these hot wheels were bought when we were a little older – like this bikes peak Toyota Tundra…
As rusty as this Porsche 959 might be, we took it down, cleaned some mud off the front and went rally racing.
Another great item is the Hot Wheels Lancia Stratos from the early 2000s. It might be as good as the Hot Wheels case I got recently.

Since we’ve always loved muscle cars, the Johnny Lightning diecast has made its way into our box. This GTO should be a new addition in its natural state.
At some point we decided to strip the paint, tear off the wheel covers and make the car look like it was driven by Jaw Dirt.
Micromachines cannot be left out. It was probably my favorite toy as a child. At one time I had over a hundred.
With these little things. I’m pretty sure micro machines are at the top of my Christmas list every year…

If some of the cars in this box were around, boxed or in chest condition – I have no doubt they would be worth a lot today. These beat up toy cars have no monetary value when sitting.
But at the same time, you can’t put a price on the hours my brother and I spent collecting and playing with these things. More importantly, if I hadn’t spent those years rolling cars over carpet, tiles, dirt and concrete, I wouldn’t be surrounded by cars where I am today. In the 1970s and 1980s, children had many fun toys that drove cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The toy was well made and many moved under its own power. And since many of these cars were modeled after cars made famous by TV shows and movies, every kid loved them. Today, adults nostalgic for their youth will pay big bucks for some of these toys. Upstairs are dozens of vintage wheeled toys.
Introduced in the 1980s, the Stomper 4X4s were aimed at kids with a passion for road rage. These trucks were powered by a single AA battery, which cost about $10 new, and had a four-wheel drive system that rotated the wheels, one in and one out. They also kept the headlights on. Stompers produced some great models, including Subaru Broads, Dodge Power Wagons, Jeep Honzo trucks, and larger Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks. The body of these toys was highly detailed and matched to the real car, which added to the fun.
Stompers had a tough life. Children play with them outside to see how skilled they are. body mantle scratched; The clips holding them to the chassis can break. So, stompers on Ebay can range from $10 to $100 depending on the purchase price.
