The price for the trailer hitch and wiring harness is listed at $450 on Mazda’s official website. I understand that dealer and official websites may differ.

It left at 7:00 this morning and there was no question about what I needed a hitch for. And I don’t think it’s necessary since all the hitches come with the wiring harness.

I said the strap is not included. And when I told him that the official website included a strap, he said it was an additional $200+. They said no (but there is – and it’s probably not relevant since it’s not a dealer website).

Is $600+ for the hitch and wiring worth the hitch installation? The labor cost to install the $200 part is $400.

I did it myself but found it worth the 400-450 rupees to get it done by someone else. Now I really don’t think so.

The question is, is it worth it for them to charge an extra $200 for wiring? Without them asking me what I want. (I didn’t tell them either. But I think that part is based on the website)

That’s a lot of money. My small hurdle was getting the U-Haul installed in my 2014 GT for less than $200. I didn’t get wires because I just wanted a bike rack. But I don’t remember it being more than that. Perhaps the new version is more complex.

I negotiated the price for the OEM hitch (which is 1 1/4 Class 1) and wiring harness from the dealer. It costs more than $850 to install.

I had a Class III draw tight and wiring kit installed for $425 CDN. I would suggest paying $600 US. it. This is a bit much. But what tasks are listed on the work order? Does it specify attachments and wiring?

Using OEM parts, a reasonable price would be around $500-600, although I think you can get reasonable results for much less than that, even if you can’t or won’t do this project.

Elbaz: If you can get the hitch installed for under $200, that’s a good deal, although it’s not an OEM part.

Phokis: Where do you see OEM parts for $200? Mazda OEM Parts (plug and wire = Mazda part #00008er06-00008er07a) $300 – $350. Shipping from online Mazda parts dealers is included. Does not include installation or ball/pull bar mounts.

IMHO Mazda dealer and OEM parts are not the best solution. Dealership technicians don’t do this type of work every day and can make a reasonable claim for a few hours of work. So expect a labor cost of $200 in addition to the parts cost.

Aftermarket return parts are almost identical to OEM parts. Aftermarket wiring is similar. And if you want you can plug it in from the back of your car. This can avoid having separate wires from the battery. Independent stores or those that specialize in peripherals will be much cheaper to operate than dealers.

Fokis said: Hello, I arranged to have 2* OEM trailer hitches installed on my 2018 CX5. The official Mazda website lists the trailer hitch and wiring harness as $450. I understand that the dealer with the official website may differ. The ride left at 7:00 this morning and there was no question about why I needed the hitch, and I *didn’t* think it was necessary since all hitches come with a wiring harness. At lunch time I picked up the car and inspected the bottom of the car and found that it was attached only to a hitch. Loss? $420 I said the strap is not included. And she said it was an extra $200+ when I told her the official website said a lease was included. It didn’t (but it happens – and maybe it’s not *relevant* because *not a dealer site) Is $600+ for the hitch and wiring worth the hitch installation? Labor cost to install the part is $400 $200, I researched it myself. But thought it would be fair to let someone else do it at 400-450, now I *think* that’s actually not the case. The question is – is it fair for them to charge an extra 200 for wiring where they *didn’t* ask me exactly what I wanted (I didn’t even tell them). But it is believed that the parts are included according to the website). Click to enlarge…

I feel bad whenever I see how much the dealer is charging. No matter how hard I try to readjust my expectations, I just can’t understand how they can sleep at night by charging for what they do. But the person paying has become standard practice.

Don’t be mad at Chez Wiz, a lot of people are leaving the dealership. Keep expressing your opinion with your dollars. The less we use them, the more likely they are to change.

There is no doubt about it. But where is the OEM 2″ receiver (at least for 17, 18) and where does it say the strap is included? I only found Class 1 and the harness listed separately.

How terrible is it that the dealer is charging the OP. I’m surprised he didn’t even throw a brick through his showroom window.

Poison. I think I need about $140 to return the class 2 car and wiring harness. I installed it myself but I wouldn’t pay more than $200 for installation.

I also installed Class 2 Return. The total cost, including the hitch, wiring harness, plug and flexible cable cover, was about $165. It is not difficult to do this.

DIY Total $186.68 I paid $133.38 for Curt Hitch Part # 13315 and $53.30 for Curt Harness Part # 56377. To me, $600 is a lot, even for a dealer. There is a wealth of information and options available on the subject of trailer hitches. It also includes how a dealer screwed a man’s bumper cover.

I remember a Mazda site that had a towbar and trailer as a package. But I didn’t find it. I have searched. I have only found Mazda sites that sell them separately.

Dealer prices are completely fraudulent. I ordered the harness and harness online for about $175.00. And hitch installation is available at a local shop for $60.00. Total installation time is no more than 30 minutes and is out of the gate simply by tying a knot. I installed the wiring harness myself.

When we purchased an 18 CX5 for my mother-in-law we wanted to install an OEM hitch before it left the shop. We have excellent salespeople. He gave us a picture of what to expect. That it was much better than their first attempt but know that it won’t be a perfect cut. Talk about me right away hahaha.
