The next game in the Lexus vs. Acura battle pits the all-new 2017 Lexus NX AWD, the original luxury compact crossover, against the 2017 Acura RDX AWD. Lexus was the first automaker to bring a compact luxury crossover to the market, and you’ll be delighted to see the new 2017 Lexus NX. With bold looks and an abundance of innovative technology, Penn drivers have everything they need. Starting with the standard turbo, it makes 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, more torque than the RDX. The NX also delivers better fuel economy than the RDX—an incredible 28 mpg highway. Factor in that it also has more speakers, an available navigation system and adaptive cruise control, and you can see why the Lexus NX leaves the RDX in the dust. All this and its relatively low configuration price ($36,685)! The Acura RDX is all-new for 2019. We compare it to the Lexus NX 300 AWD and share our findings so you can decide which one is right for you. you

The 2019 Lexus NX 300 AWD and 2019 Acura RDX SH-AWD are two of the best two-row crossovers in America. Both have their pros and cons, but buyers should be aware that there are some significant differences between the 2019 models. The Lexus NX is a 2018 model year and hasn’t seen any major changes since its introduction a few years ago. The Acura RDX is a completely different car from last year. Here is a breakdown of the important differences.

Although both are two-row crossovers, the Acura RDX is now larger than the Lexus NX 300. The Acura RDX is now 5 inches longer, 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller than the Lexus NX. Inside, we found the NX to be very comfortable, except for the driver’s knee room. Our right knee was in contact with the hard plastic of the oversized center console. The RDX, on the other hand, is bigger and more spacious. The most obvious size difference is in the cargo area. With the rear seats up, the RDX is nearly twice the size of the Lexus NX.

Lexus NX is cheaper than Acura RDX. The NX 300 with AWD starts at just $39,000. The Acura RDX retails for just over $40,000. Our top tester, the Lexus NX (2018), had a sticker price of $45,560. A similarly equipped Acura RDX costs about $49,000. Both are equipped differently, but looking at the configuration tool, we think the top-end Lexus is about 10% cheaper, while the base trim is relatively close.

Compare And Contrast: 2019 Lexus Nx 300 Awd Vs. 2019 Acura Rdx

Lexus NX 300 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 235 horsepower. It comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. The RDX also has a 2.0-liter turbo engine, but with 272 horsepower, it’s more fun. Acura also uses a state-of-the-art 10-speed automatic transmission. While both have plenty of power, the RDX feels a little faster in all conditions. Both are available with all-wheel drive.

EPA fuel economy comparison as above. The Lexus NX has a 1 MPG advantage, but requires superior fuel economy. This is a demand, not an offer. The Acura RDX can run on regular 87 octane gasoline.

Our Lexus NX tester was equipped with Lexus’ premium 10-speaker sound system as part of the Navigation package. It was good and lived up to expectations. The $48,395 A-Spec RDX (top down) came with the amazing Acura ELS Studio 3D Premium sound system with 710 watts and 16 speakers (including the roof). There isn’t a better system we’ve heard at any price point. This is a huge advantage for Acura.

Lexus and Acura both have Apple CarPlay, but neither has Android Auto yet. Acura says it plans to add Android for buyers of all 2019 model years. Toyota did not accept this obligation.

Lexus Rx Towing Capacity

Both machines use a touchpad interface. We at Torque News are not big fans of remote interface units. We prefer a simple touchscreen system. It’s a cleanser. Choose your favorite one.

Both the RDX and NX 300 have the option of a heated steering wheel, but both are only available on trims. Acura does offer a head-up display, but only on the hoods. Neither have adaptive headlights (which move from side to side as you turn). All of these options are available on the Mazda 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring crossover, and they cost much less. We find it odd that these features aren’t standard on the RDX and NX 300. The Lexus NX is available in compact form, while the Acura RDX is only available in select models.

The Lexus NX 300 AWD has a very comfortable ride and also has good cornering and braking capabilities. The Acura RDX has the same compatibility, but with a slight advantage in handling. They feel different. The NX feels straighter and more like a traditional sports crossover. The RDX feels more like a coupe or a sedan. It’s a matter of personal preference.

The two have been close in many ways in the past. For 2019, Acura is making a significant departure from its previous model. We suspect Lexus will follow suit next year. While the Acura RDX excels in the sound system and performance department, the Lexus is no slouch in those areas either. The Lexus is priced a bit lower, and we think the NX could have a significant price advantage if the Lexus staff offered their usual incentives. However, the resale value may offset this advantage. Size is the real difference between the two. Those who like small cars will like the Lexus, while those who want more space will like the RDX. If you’re shopping for both of these big, premium crossovers, let us know in the comments which one you prefer and why.
