The Yamaha G29 golf cart is not an ordinary golf cart that you enjoy driving. You will also be addicted to its sounds and also follows the Yamaha G29 golf cart. Bought a used 2008 Yamaha 48v golf cart for camping and everything runs fine but the unusual grinding sound you hear when you let off the throttle. I don’t know if it’s the switches or the bearings or what and I’m hoping someone out there can diagnose it by the sound. Any help is certainly appreciated. I hope you can hear it well when I get off the gas.

This can be difficult to determine, but is most likely caused by a faulty commutator bearing in the motor. Although the noise is more of a “crash” than a real grind. When they go wrong, the noise is amplified by the vibration it causes in everything around it. The bearing is removed quite easily (with a detent trigger). A new one can be pressed using a hydraulic press. Some people hit the new one with a pipe, but I definitely don’t recommend it. While the car is apart, it’s a good time to look at the brushes (you can replace them) and look at the transformer (it might need turning and polishing). Other than that, it’s just a piece of cake (just kidding). If you are thinking about wheel bearings, there will usually be a tendency for the noise to change with hard revs. The problem could be the rear end (input shaft bearing etc) but in my experience it is much less than the engine. Good luck, Ron

Thanks Ron. Try to research this so you can work it out with a friend first if possible. The reason I bought the electric was to avoid engine issues.

If you have a radio you can always turn it on when you run out of gas, that’s what I did (just kidding). If you decide the engine is the culprit, depending on the mechanic’s experience level and availability of tools, it may be easier (though more expensive) to take the car to a shop. I know that’s not what you want to hear. Trying to fix it, you can stick the back, take out the “cheapo port charging stethoscope” and rev the engine and try to find the source of the noise, but it’s still hard to be sure because there . so that it makes noise while you work on it. If you do this, remember that the COMMUTATOR assembly is at the bottom of the ALOXE motor where it is attached to the rear. The rear provides the drive thrust (shaft input bearing) so I’ll start there and “listen”. Of course it’s easier to do it with 2 people; one to “eat” while the other listens. Good luck!!

If you find a culprit, please let me know. Mine sounded the same and replaced the com bearing.

Byron, I just had one in my shop for the same noise. I am grateful! I pulled the engine and checked the rear transmission and it was smooth and quiet. I replaced it and put it back together and the noise went away. I suggest that if you find no other problems, you change that role.

Communication feels good, but it still replaces it. I noticed that the spline node was set and leaving some other threads here may be part of my problem. Unfortunately, after playing it, it looks like the case part is hard to get in Australia. And WITH a $66 admin fee and a 6 week wait for a $3 rubber clip seems a bit much to me.

I have some nolatan blanks in 22mm that I turned down to fit. Assemble the final product to compare photos of the original online and put them back together. Driving hard on the driving test. He’s going golfing tomorrow so we’ll see how that goes.
